The Atheist Obsession with Insulting Christians

Randy has every opportunity to turn over a new leaf. I'll be polite to him when  he is to me, and my friends.

So long as he is sanctimonious and condescending , he can find "courtesy" in the dictionary between "chump" and "cunt".

But what if he is doing exactly what he came here to do.  If he wants to slap dash together the best 'official' catholic responses based on his internet research, don't we bear some responsibility for getting sucked in over and over?

I don't want to become like the Christian sites where we just prohibit what we disagree with or dislike.  I say let him have his soap box and if you don't like his show (can't really call it an interaction), move on.

I wasn't cheering for him to be banned, but as I note above, there are times when he inflicts himself on me.

I don't turn the other cheek.

I guess if he was showing up on lots of threads pushing his approach everywhere I wanted to go, then I'd feel justified in complaining. But so long as he does it on threads he starts, I have no problem knowing what I am getting myself in for and making an informed decision.

Ok ya'll, I get that you guys don't agree with the way Randy presents himself and his views around here, but this is just getting painful to watch. Ganging up on someone and calling them nasty names is never warranted, imho. A few of these posts are just getting to the point of being character assassination. This is a real person here, with a wife and kids, and other loved ones. Let's not forget that.

I guess if he was showing up on lots of threads pushing his approach everywhere I wanted to go, then I'd feel justified in complaining. But so long as he does it on threads he starts, I have no problem knowing what I am getting myself in for and making an informed decision.

I guess if he didn't make a thread insinuating that we have an obsession with insulting people based soley on their disagreeing with us on religion most of us wouldn't care to complain. I've interacted with Randy a couple of times, deduced that he is an ass, and decided to just ignore his threads. But when he makes this thread saying that atheists are obsessed with insulting Christians, then he deserves to have it pointed out that people insult him because he's an ass not because he's a Christian.

Silence is violence, as the old saying goes. I have stayed out of most of this, but once someone steps over a line of belligerence toward the people on the board whom I admire (and that includes you, Cath!), then I will step in to defend them against a bully.

This guy is the equivalent of the type of bully who thinks he's bigger than he is, walks up and punches a weaker kid, and then when the weaker kid's six friends come in and start kicking the snot out of him, he complains that he's being bullied.

Nope. Not having it. Not allowing it. This guy deserves everything he has earned here. If he wants to play nice, we'll play nice.

Remember? We're atheists. We believe in being nice to people if possible, but we do not have a "turn the other cheek" rule.

From what I've seen, Randy has had much nastier things said to him than he's said to anyone else here. The way you're portraying it above is as if Randy came in here and was a big bully to people who were nothing but kind and welcoming to him. "Randy is the villain, and everyone else is just the innocent snow flake, and now we're all heroes for calling him all sorts of horrible names." 

^That's what it sounds like you're saying. And I'm sorry, but that is extremely one sided and is not the case. 

I guess you can continue to cuss him out and call him nasty names if you really believe it's the right and noble thing to do. But if you're going to do that to a person, I urge you to at least take a look at some of his very first posts here on AF and see if things really started the way you seem to think they did.

Like I said in an earlier post, he does have a point though. I've had a lot of nasty things said to me here when it wasn't warranted. It seems everyone is responding to this thread by saying "oh we're nice to theists if they're nice to us." And yeah, a lot of people here are like that. But there are definitely those who are not. This fact should at least be acknowledged.

I acknowledged it in my first post. I have had Christians say hurtful cruel things to me in response to me merely telling them that I don't believe in god, but I don't think all Christians are obsessed with insulting atheists.

Like I said, some people are just assholes. It has nothing to do with being atheist or Christian. But the majority of people respond to others based on how they act, not based on their religious views.

Not merely agreed with you on a point of debate,
but actually defended you?
