Ganging up on someone and calling them nasty names is never warranted, imho. A few of these posts are just getting to the point of being character assassination. This is a real person here, with a wife and kids, and other loved ones. Let's not forget that.
Uhhh... Randy started the thread we're currently in called "The Atheist Obsession With Insulting Christians".
How can you net see that, a. it's flamebait, and b. it's calling atheists nasty?
What could you possibly expect would happen in this scenario? And what does his personal life have to do with anything? every one of us has a personal life.
Like I said, I think it makes a good point and I have explained why I think that. I didn't see where it's calling atheists nasty.
I know sometimes it's easy for most people to forget it's a human behind the screen name, which probably explains all the horrible things being said to/about Randy. And that's why I said this is a real person with loved ones.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I already addressed this.

You're right. You're absolutely right. This isn't a forum for discussing Christianity.
Congratulations, Randy, you finally got one right!
This is a forum for atheists to gather, learn about each other, socialize, point out interesting things to one another, joke with one another, and discuss all sorts of topics (the dominant religions of the world being one of those).
It's only your arrogance and self-centeredness that tells you it should be for discussing your religion.
We atheists tend to work toward being open toward people who differ in opinion, and thus we welcome theists here in a way that is not, repeat not, reciprocated by the theists, who almost universally treat us like shit wherever they hold dominant social control. The internet is one of the first times in all of history where we are relatively free to speak our minds openly, aside from private gatherings in homes (ironically akin to Christianity, in its early years). This is our free space, for the first time since the spread of Christianity and its repressions 1700 years ago.
And yet, you invade our sanctum, you abuse our hospitality, and then you try to play the victim card when we don't welcome your self-righteous OneTrueFaith proselytization with open arms.
This is our house. Polite guests are welcome, regardless of their personal opinions. But the moment you start to tread on us, the moment you start to think you are superior to us, or need not respect us, you can expect a shitstorm of hostile rhetoric coming back your way. And you will deserve every fleck of it.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

A real person with loved ones who wants to paint atheists on an atheist forums with a broad brush as rude.
Frankly given that his sole purpose is to promote his church he is lucky to be tolerated here. We don't let people promote tupperware here. People who don't come to interact* are misusing the forums.
*Oh, and a sales pitch doesn't count as interacting.

@CL-The name of the thread is "The Atheist Obsession with Insulting Christians". It does not make a good point at all. It looks at the behavior of a few people and attributes it to all of us. That you would say it's a good point is insulting to us.

Strictly speaking the part I bolded isn't correct. AF.org bills itself as a place where people of all beliefs may have discussions. I don't like to think of it as exclusionary. But the coin of the realm is discussion, and one trick ponies who want to promote their brand are not tolerated. Personally I don't care if Randy stays or goes. I won't be bothered any more since he is the first person I've put on ignore in years.

I'm sorry, apparently I mistakenly read Atheist Forums at the top of the screen.
We do welcome people of all beliefs, and we do welcome discussions. It's my favorite thing.
But this is not, repeat not, quote, "a forum for discussing Christianity". It's just a favorite and common topic.
