A Serious Proposal

RE: A Serious Proposal
I support the idea of having a "this is what we have to deal with..." sub-section under humor or ryleh requiring group membership privileges to view or post in the section. Or you can add an ignore-entire-section button :p

God I am slow today. This is @CL

The problem is that this forum prides itself on free speech, so even if you make a new subforum...I highly doubt you're going to convince anyone to ban the silly posters from posting in the new section.

Foul language
Disrespecting of ANYONE's faith or non-faith
Blasphemous memes
Personal attacks
Vulgar avatars (your own, for example)

You know...the kind of stuff that would get you fired if you said or did any of it at work.

Newsflash, this isn't work. This forum has very few rules, and that is the beauty of it.

And I have no problem with disrespecting anyone's ideas. I respect your right to have a set of beliefs. The beliefs themselves are not something to be respected. I respect your right to express your ideas not not necessarily the ideas themselves. That depends on the quality of the ideas.

Complaints about blasphemy are really nothing more than attempts to shelter ideas for criticism or to protect the feeling of people who hold those ideas. No ideas deserve such protection.

NONE of that will happen, of course.

No, absent violation of the rules, we don't ban anyone.

Higher level? You mean where one person: posts a long quote from someone else; ignores any real criticism of it except to reiterate the OP or to say he's already refuted that elsewhere (usually without a link); and then declares victory?

Special group membership privileges would solve that

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

RE: A Serious Proposal
I fail to see why a serious discussion area is necessary. There have been plenty of serious discussions in this section. There will be many more. The ignore feature still exists. The report feature still exists. That someone's schtick is getting old and is no longer being tolerated gracefully has no bearing on the forum's structure or format, IMO.

And exactly how do we go about proving that we are anti-silly enough to qualify for membership?

To the contrary.

I'm looking for a place to chat with people who won't post the kind of crap you just posted.

There must be a xtian forum somewhere that would suit your needs.  Here you're going to catch hell when you post stupid shit.  Sucks to be you.

RE: A Serious Proposal
Perhaps someone could just start a thread along the lines of the one that calls for all discussion to be in memes. The difference would be that all posts would have to be copy pasta'd from somewhere else. Maybe the thread title could be "Don't Answer In Your Own Words".
