Genesis 5:4 says that Adam had other sons and daughters. Cain was obviously afraid that some of them would want avenge Abel's death.

Quote:Q2 Where did his wife come from?
She was one of his sisters.

Quote:Q3 Where did the population of Enoch arrive from?
It was made up of Cain and his descendants. The Bible doesn't say how much time elapsed between the birth of Enoch and the founding of the city so it is possible that there were a lot of people to begin it. It is also possible that some of the descendants of Cain's siblings could have moved there.
His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Your stupid fucking bible also says that Adam lived for 800 years after "Seth" was born.

So much for that nonsense.

This was also written after Cain had been banished, along with, the way it references Adam's sons and daughters seemed to be more of an "After the act" bit....

This is an excuse to try and justify Cain's wife...Just face it...the writers made a mistake...Goofed up, so to speak...

Regardless that I do not believe anything literal out of the Adam and Eve story, it's always amazed me how many people do...

"Adam and Eve" and "Noah's Fucking Ark" are the two stories which are the dividing line between hope and hopeless.

Anyone who believes such fucking bullshit literally is hopeless.

Believe it or not, they actually have an explanation for that as well; apparently the Earth was irradiated after the Flood (by the forces that would apparently cause a flood that raises the sea level by over six miles), and that somehow limited the lifespan of humans to 120 years (except for the other descendants of Noah all the way down to Jacob), and apparently, the air was thinner, which killed off the dinosaurs, because they were too big (presumably all dinosaurs were the size of Apatosaurs.) Yes.

There's also another explanation that's even more idiotic than that one: somewhere in the process of systematizing the text of the Torah, people started to confuse months for years. As you can imagine, it can explain how figures like Mahalalel (Adam's great-grandson), could live for 830 years if it's actually closer to 64 years, but the text also says that his first child was born at the age of 65 (which would, by this standard, be close to his fifth birthday.)

It's really a tossup over which theory is more idiotic than the other.

Or you could have me explain it... I'm sure I could do significantly better with a simpler explanation: "God's powers kept them alive". If we are assuming him to exist already, then that is not so hard to believe.

Rev Rye, I remember hearing both explanations for the age bit. Especially the last one you gave.

Speaking of Age....I've always wondered how Creationist believe the Earth to be 6000 - 10,000 years old, but still take the Bible literal?

If you take the Bible literally, then simple math and common knowledge should tell you something with the human history. And I'm not talking about our life spans today....

RE: Creation of the World
taken as the storybook that it is, "the Bible" is an absolute narrative abomination. Plot holes and inconsistencies abound.
the only reason it's given any thought is because that 1) millions are indoctrinated at birth (or later) to think it is real, and 2) it's become ingrained in our culture.

taking the bible literally means that you have lost (or never developed) the ability to distinguish fantasy from reality, and that makes you EXTREMELY dangerous.
