Edit to Add: I have blocked several people, including a couple of relatives, on Facebook because they have tried the "blame the victim" game, saying she deserved it for disobedience, and the only reason the cop was fired and the Police Association refused to provide a lawyer to defend him was because the Departments are "bowing to liberal sensitivity". No sympathy, no empathy. Just totalitarianism- "if you don't want to be shot by police, don't piss them off!" (Also having issues due to the recent release of the cop who shot the 19 year old kid in the head during a drug sting because the kid tried to drive away.) Makes me want to choke people who say shit like that!

I hear you, man. This emphasis on obedience is nothing less than fascism. A draconian fascism at that.

I don't know if she was being petulant. She did put her cell phone away when he asked her to but still told her to report to administration. I remember what it was like to be a child. Adults talk to kids any old kind of way then if they kid so much as raises her eyebrows, she's petulant. Adults want a lot more respect from kids than they are willing to give as if talking to a child like a human being will somehow undermine their authority.

Agreed. I used the word "petulant" to describe how the teacher would have seen her actions, for the reasons you stated.

I should have been clearer that I don't think this child did anything that warranted removal from the classroom, let alone an assault by a police officer.

That's easy. Puritanical Americans are so afraid of sex that we'll even strip off the sacred badge of a police officer, if he's accused of doing dirty, dirty things... whereas murder is just seen as part-and-parcel of his job to suppress protect the population against individuals the disobedient.
