Duplicate. Baleeted!
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

I just happen to own those four books and have them sitting here next to my desk. They were recommended by Dr. Brasseaux (a friend of my mom's), one of the premier Cajun historians in the state. Thought I'd pass along the recommendations. I am confused now. Are you in Montreal or Louisiana or somewhere I messed?

Then what does that say about English?
Because about 40% of English is either based-upon
or borrowed directly from French.

Just so you know -- English has roughly a million words in it.
Well, then I would say that it says something very specific about English;
It would say that it says that
1. English has about 600,000 words of its own,
and roughly 400,000 either based-upon
or borrowed directly from French.
2. I think it also says that despite English having so many words of its own,
it still felt the need to use some excellent French words
(....of which, there are a bit more than 50,000, incidentally).

My point was that saying that simply because 40% of English is drawn from French says nothing about that quality of the language, which was the seeming implication of the question, given the context of the conversation between you and WoG.
All languages borrow words. You can't infer quality from that fact alone.

I agree with you. I was responding to WoG's attack on French.

If I somehow ever run into Proust or Flaubert, I'll be sure to castigate them as the low-vocabulary hacks they undoubtedly were.

Dumb joke #357
Why do people in St. Louis welcome sad people?
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.
I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

I didn't mean to give the impression that I was in Montreal. My mom went to Nova Scotia a few months/weeks ago, and goes every couple of years, but I've never been to Canada.
My people are from Louisiana, where I went to highschool and college (except a year and a half at USAFA in Colorado Springs), and I lived near Kansas City for a few years prior to my incarceration. I'm now in southeast Missouri, about to move back near KC.
