I just saw The Road and it immediately earned a spot on my favorites list. If Viggo doesn't get an Oscar nod for that movie then the academy wasn't paying attention. 


Agreed,arguably the best US film of the genre made to date.

Sadly,the academy awards seldom have anything to do with quality and never really have.- EG Sandra Bullock as best actress? Gimme a fucking break !

Totally agree, i ended up stumbling onto it in a friends movie collection, just put it on expecting something to fill in 2 hours of the day and ended up being shocked by how kick-ass it was. Some fucking massive performances in that film.

Trainspotting

I liked the movie much more from the book. For one thing, the dialogue in the film was more comprehensible than the book, the opening was much more memorable, and the music was truly kick-ass.

Powder

I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard, it's an interesting movie, using telekinetic children as a way of analyzing Human Bastardry.

Excalibur

This is probably the best adaptation of the classic Arthurian Lore that doesn't involve Monty Python, but I admit that between Point Blank, Deliverance, and, hell, even Zardoz, this movie isn't exactly one of John Boorman's best.

IP Man

I haven't seen it, but I hear it will be released next month in America, and I hope that when it comes out, it is as good as reviewers are saying it is. And oddly enough, it's not the only Asian movie on the verge of a release that I want to see.

Time Machine

Which version? I liked the 1960 George Pal version, but the 2002 movie, I just disliked, especially because it completely changed the book. You'd think that a movie directed by a relative of the original author would be true to the book, but surprisingly not.

I agree on a few of the movies you listed from John Boorman in regards to Excalibur...

As far as IP Man, I just got through watching part 2 a couple of days ago.. It literally leaves off from the first part of his life in his home village all the way to Hong Kong where he opened up his school..

If you get a chance to see IP Man, do it.. It's truly a great movie and interesting story to see unfolded on Bruce Lee's Teacher......

I like both versions (60's and 02)...Just the idea behind it was inviting.....

Yeah, well, in America, it's not so much a chick flick as a foreign film. That said, it doesn't feel like a lot of "chick flicks" I've been forced to watch. It's far more bizarrely plotted than what a lot of the "chick flick" audience would be used to.
