Mediums and such should be illegal.
I mean, if I said "I firmly believe I have sold you a house", after taking your money, would that be OK? No. So why's it OK to sell a product which has not been demonstrated to be anything other than cold reading bullshit, conning credulous people out of money?

I agree, but technically, it's selling a service. There's no tangible product to be given. So, unfortunately, it's legal.

I'm less appalled by the gullibility of people who pay psychics than I am by the cupidity of the psychics themselves. Taking advantage of a person who has lost a loved one, or is in grief over anything is morally wrong on so many levels, it's hard to know where to start.

Sure, it's a service, but not as described. The person is claiming to be actually talking to the dead. In reality, they are not, so they are taking money under false pretences.
I've seen first hand the damage a medium can do, and not just financially. I have a friend whose life is basically over because they are unable to properly grieve over the loss of a loved one. The medium perpetuates the idea that she is "still here", and this causes her to obsess over it, as she is encouraged to do. It's revolting. The medium tells her what her loved one "wants" and so on.
Obviously my friend is very gullible, but the law should protect people from such obvious harmful cons.

I wholeheartedly agree. But until there's enough of an outcry, those sorts will continue to get away with it. Sadly, there's always going to be one in a crowd who will buy what the peddler is selling.

Sylvia Brown is an idiot. I don't even know if anyone who does that shit could be sued. The fact that the Montel Williams show had her on as a regular guest, just tanks Montel's credibility as a decent guy.
