Hello

Hello
Jenny1972 recommended I check this place out. It might be a good place to sort things out, or not  . . .

I began breaking away for Christianity around 2008 as I became increasingly irritated by Christian rhetoric, and the abusiveness of some (maybe even many) Christians.

I was raised in a Southern Baptist church where, at a very young age, I experienced the abusiveness of the "Hell-fire-and-brimstone" teachings. Such a confusing thing to expose a child to, whist at the same time teaching them songs of "Jesus loves me . . ."   Very puzzling.

On the other hand, I sort of consider myself a religious humanist, in that I do think that surely religion can be a positive thing in a person's life. Maybe that just being hopeful. (Meh.)

Basically, I guess my opinion is that people are people. Some are kind, some are mean and everything in between. Religion just gives them the words to use to express the type of people they are.

And, I ramble . . .

Anyway, hello

Welcome, friend of Jenny! We like her, so you've got a good chance here! Tongue
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Because I admire humanism more than I admire religion. I would rather people care more for other people than they do for imaginary friends.

Welcome aboard Smile

I'm glad you pulled free of Christianity. I agree with you, we're all just people. Religion is a tool, and the tool itself is not inherently good or bad. Although it might be an amusing shape!

Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Religion has a bad track record on human rights.

Welcome aboard.
