Yeah, I watched the original series religiously as a kid. For me, at that age, it was high drama. I know what you mean about it seeming stale now, but it retains a certain camp value for me.
The Next Generation crushed it like a grape, IMO.

After the first season, at least. 
I have mixed feelings about a new ST series. I'm a big fan, I watched TOS when I was a kid, and got into TNG as a young adult. I may be one of the few trekkies who didn't mind Enterprise. So I'm a bit excited about it, but I also know that absent Roddenberry's influence, it could go off the rails fast.

Loved the movies though. But rather hard to shoot new ones with three being dead and the rest being old age pensioners.

I'm a ST tragic (I agree with others about Enterprise though)
