I think Ronald D Moore has his hands full with other things to go back to Trek.

Ron Moore is weird to me.
Like, he can write awesome episodes. He can create awesome series. But he never quite knows how to end a series. The DS9 finale was half clip episode. The BSG finale was really weird (too much, "lol, god" for my liking). I'd love him as a consultant on the new Trek, and a writer of individual episodes, but not much else.

In my personal opinion it was the weakest series in the franchise, with the exception of the animated series from the 70's. I felt that 'DS9' was the weakest. 'Babylon 5' was much better. Basically the same story. As to 'Enterprise', I thought it was great. It was not quite 'Star Trek', but then it wasn't. Everybody was in a learning curve. No Prime Directive yet and basically it was a bunch of children playing on the highway during rush hour.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

I quite liked the end of ds9. I think with the emissary thing they did the best they could, gul dukats descent into madness is actually very deep I find. But with the execution I think it was the best possible outcome except if they ignored emissary stuff all together. You have to remember that strongly established when he was still writing for TNG . I also think that when Ronald Moore took over they mostly downplay it until they knew they had to bring it to a conclusion. Of course with ds9 they had some amazing actors, namely Avery Brooks. I think he had a lot to do with how the show went too. As for bsg that has a far simpler explanation. They weren't initially planing to wrap it up iirc but they found out about the writers strike about the beginning of season 4 and the reaction was oh fuck we gotta wrap this end or it might never see an ending period.

The 3 consecutive episodes where they introduced seven (that was a double) and the one after it put together would have been the best ST movie made to date.

Excited about the movie, very excited about the show.
Next Generation and Voyager were my favorites of the series. It'll be great to finally have a new Star Trek show to tune in to. Unfortunately, there aren't many shows worth watching these days. I heard X-files is coming back, too. If they'd find a way to bring back Breaking Bad, Buffy, Angel, and Highlander I might start to believe there is a God after all. EDIT: And Torchwood. I don't know if that's officially canceled or if BBC is just choosing to do 6 episodes or a mini-series every 20 years or so. There are other decent shows like Sons Of Anarchy, Game Of Thrones, Doctor Who, etc. I believe we're actually in the golden ago of television. Things aren't all cheesy like they were just a decade or so ago. The shows have clever writing and good character development, and will even criticize themselves in the show at times. |
