Just speaking for myself, I've known quite a few wicked Christians, and as far as atheists go... they've been less wicked on average compared to the Christians.

Actually, it is quite specific in so far as who will know the truth as contained in Holy Scripture, and who will not.

A true Christian is continuously taught many good things by GOD, including to be humble like the CHRIST, not arrogant! A true Christian knows that but for the grace of GOD he/she would still be under wrath, so where does arrogance come in?

I have stated before - per the Bible, which is truth - that not everyone who claims to be a Christian is in fact so.  The Lord GOD knows those who are His - 2 Timothy 2:19

----

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." - Matthew 7:21

Could it be that (hypothetically) the vast majority of Christians are not true Christians? After all... according to what you just said, only God knows who is the true Scotsman (err- I mean, Christian.)

The reason I ask is, if it were the case (hypothetically) that your religion consisted mostly of untrue Christians, then maybe your entire religion isn't something a "true Christian" would want to be involved in.

I hear you, but this is why it is imperative to search the Scriptures because I tell you - the answers are all in there!

It is not about a religion, but rather a personal relationship with the Word, the Lord JESUS, the CHRIST and being reconciled back to GOD.

The Lord JESUS Himself says He is the Way to salvation from death (the second death), and thus people should look to Him only as revealed the Bible - and not to "doctrines of men" as contained in religions.

The Narrow Way
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." - Matthew 7:13-14

Like myself, MercyVessel is here to preach. The only problem is, He follows a false idol and will suffer in the great boiling and I have succeeded in converting many here via my undeniable truths and bribery via tacos and beer.

A book won't do that for me, Mercyvessel. Neither will your testimony. I require first-hand physical evidence in the form of the god itself, in my presence. This is not negotiable - it is the only thing that has even the slightest chance of convincing me.

If you tell people you're a Christian, you're a Christian. In this sense, there are no "true Christians", meaning there are no Christians who are "more Christian" than any other Christian.

A personal relationship is fine for an individual. But it does nothing for another person, since there's no way to quantify or measure a "relationship". I simply have to take your word that you have a real relationship with a deity.
And then comes those who have had a personal relationship with their own deity, a deity that is in no way shape or form the same deity you say you have a relationship with. Their claim of relationship is just as valid as yours.
So now, who is correct?

First point: Christianity is the most popular religion in the world. (so... yeah).

Second point: It's a rather vague verse to begin with. I mean, I guess "most people are going to hell" is something you could confidently gather from it. But to what does the "narrow gate" refer?

Is it an elaboration of the previous point about good vs evil believers? If so, then the verse has little to do with having a correct doctrine (as many presume) and has more to do with the fact that self-involved "evil" people are a dime a dozen, and truly good natured people are rare.

Does it mesh with the next item: a warning about false prophets? If it does, maybe we're back to thinking the verse is about doctrine. After all, a false prophet has a false doctrine. Except that (according to the verse) what separates a true prophet from a false one is "being inwardly a ravenous wolf"... so now we're back to good-natured vs evil-natured people.

I guess what I'm saying is: it's all rather ambiguous. And different sects and different people take different things away from it. Which is the topic of the thread, anyway. So what is your response to this, Mercyvessel? It's fine if you want to give your interpretation of the verse, but I'm more interested in hearing about how something so ambiguous can be said to have a definite meaning... or (if you prefer)... how do you handle the ambiguity yourself?
