"Spirituality" a problematic word "OP/ED"
While it is a great trend that younger generations in the west are not buying into the club mentality and gang think of organized religion, there is an attempt to defend woo by saying "I am not religious, I am spiritual". No sorry, as well intended as that may be, the word "spiritual" is problematic as well. It still suffers the problem of meaning different things to different people.

Let me explain what is really going on. It is a natural reaction when humans see something and react positively and intensely to nature. I have those same intense feelings when I think about my mother, about my  pets, about a sunset, ect ect ect........ There is no need to attach the word "spirituality" to our reactions which are merely our "sense of awe" to such an antiquated word.

Nature is fucking awesome to think about, from our relationships, to our pets, to all the good things in it that make life worth living. Don't use such a cheap gap filling word like "spirituality". It really simply is a watered down version to protect woo. Yes by law certainly you can use the word, and make claims that it is a real thing, but I can also say "bullshit" it is simply woo also.

Ok, fine. I'll use "warm fuzzy feeling and vague yet compelling sense of connectedness with everything while contemplating the universe, sometimes called spiritual experience even though it does not involve supernatural experiences" in the future.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

It's all one word in German anyway, isn't it? Tongue

No, it is the difference between superficial woo that people call "connected" and the the reality that our common material is NOT magic.

Reality is much more awesome than the bullshit humans concoct to ignore their finite existence.

It could be. A plausible candidate would be "Universalverbundenheitswohlgefühl"

I don't understand your reply. What is the difference between [...]?

I'm having a hard time seeing this as an issue. English words, almost all of them, have different meanings and shades of meanings. If you feel 'spiritual' about your mum, your pets, a particular sunset, etc, I don't think anyone is accusing you of defending woo. Although I'm some 12000 miles from there, I feel a 'spiritual' connection to the land of my birth. There may be no 'need' to use the word 'spiritual' to describe what I feel, but I really don't see the harm in it.

No one has to like the words I use to describe my more ineffable feelings. It's not like I'm pressing my usage upon anyone else. Why should they care?
