What bullshit

1.  They didn't build a wall around their country, they built one to the north of their country.  There were continuous and vigorous trade and contact to the east, south, and west during the entire time the wall existed.  Theirs was the largest trading nation in the world for much of period between 400AD -1600AD.

2.  To the degree they seem homogenous now, it wasn't because of lack of immigration. It was because they successfully assimilated successive waves of immigrants over the centuries.

3.  The wall didn't work for the purposes of immigration control when it really counted. The biggest waves of immigrants into China during the period when the wall existed were mostly through the wall in the north, not through the open borders in the other three directions.

4.  The period the Chinese themselves thinks of the golden era of Classical Chinese civilization, the Tang Dynasty, also happen to have been the most open and cosmopolitan era in Chinese history until the last few decades.

5.  The Ming dynasty, one of the more closed and xenophobic of strong native dynasties in Chinese history, were also thought of by the Chinese as one of more repressive and kleptocratic eras in their history.

6.  The wealthiest period, and the period during which China saw the fastest territorial and population growth in its history, was between 1650-1750, when the ruling dynasty itself was made up of immigrants, who, incidentally, came in through the wall.

By and large, I've noticed that the only people with any particular interest in "backing their tribe," are those on your side, desperate to maintain racial purity while bandying about accusations of racism as a means to silence dissent. Those of us who are for immigration couldn't really care less, because it's not about racial identity to us, it's about not being blinded by unfounded xenophobia. I am, before you start lobbing assumptions about my demographic at me, a white male, originally from a country with a high immigrant population, and from an area where that was even more true. Despite this, we still have a strong sense of our cultural identity, and frankly, so do the immigrants, if we let them, isn't that amazing? If you let a person feel welcome in your country and allow them to partake in the pleasures of being there, most of the time they'll happily join you in celebrating that culture! It's almost as if the way you treat people as a country informs how they view that country!

So yes, you can find a lot of stores in my country with foreign sounding names, and I grew up going to school with muslim kids, and Chinese kids, and Indian kids, but it didn't matter because they were accepted and were hence just people. Immigrants aren't some evil horde out to take over your country, they're mostly just people looking for a place to live. You'd see that if you could relinquish your unfounded, paranoid fear for a moment.

Yet the majority of mass shooters are white, at 79%, and male, at 90%. If you want to talk about what's causing the most havoc, there's something you should be thinking about too: deport all the white males!

This is exactly the kind of thing which gives me the impression (as I stated in another thread) that Trump has a personal agenda for running and it isn't to win the presidency. Anyone who is even the tiniest bit familiar with the American constitution and system of government knows that his proposal is just shy of utterly impossible. Why propose something that you know is a non-starter? Not only the Democrats but 90% of Republicans would reject this. And if by some minor miracle it were to pass and become law, SCOTUS would shoot it down 9-0. Even Scalia and Thomas aren't this crackers. So why bring it up?

Congress can exempt laws from judicial review.

Technically this is correct to some extent, but no one has any idea to what extent.

It's been long agreed by just about everyone who's thought deeply about it (I know that's a total BS appeal to authority but I believe it's true) that one of the absolute worst things the government can do is get into the business of deciding whether someone's professed religious beliefs are sincere.  In order to ban muslims from entering the US, a determination about the sincerity of personal convictions would have to be made.

That way madness lies.
