Delicate Offers a Truce
RE: Delicate Offers a Truce
Here, Delicate. You can start here:
http://atheistforums.org/thread-49.html

As you can easily scroll back and see, we aren't just faceless enemies. I have to sleep now because I have a 13 hour drive (one way) in the morning, followed by a few days of constant driving with loaded trailers, but I truly hopeby the time I get back you've decided to show some humanity, and acknowledge ours.

In the words of Han Solo: "Good luck, kid. You're gonna need it."
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Although you're welcome to talk to me about my beliefs, if you're rational.

One of my main goals in life, is to have as many true beliefs and as few false beliefs as possible. That is why these existential discussions are so important to me.

I think it is extremely important to have my internal representation of the world, map as closely as possible to reality. I believe there are well established, reliable methods that actually return results, that are able to determine truth from fiction.

If someone has a convincing case for the existence of a god or gods, I want to know about it. If you are not making any claims, or trying to convince anyone, then why else are you here?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Whateverist turns him down.

(This should be a thread in which we all talk about ourselves in the third person.)

Starvald Demelain agrees.

Making that 3rd person thread now.

Oh and you've made plenty of claims about god in your threads, just not any that can hold water.

On demand 4 if you had any ounce of integrity or willingness to improve yor behaviour you'd concede I'm right on that one. The proof is plastered all over the fora here.

I've come to the conclusion that you're either an unrepentant troll, irredemably stupid or both, with my opinion falling at c). There is no point engaging with you further as you don't want to discuss, you want simply to insult all who don't immediately accept your unintelligible utterances.

Goodbye and enjoy your sad, pathetic and unfulfilling little life.

Look at the contrast between my response and his.

I'm cool, calm, collected. I disagree, of course- who wouldn't- with what Dorfl has on offer.

But my disagreement is predicated on facts and reasons. And it is open for discussion- if he can prove me wrong with reasons and evidence, he's more than welcome.

Contrast that with his response. Note the ad hominem. The intense emotionalism. The sneering condescension and savagery.

A response like Dorfl's is truly uncalled for. It lacks class and substance, and proves my point.

People who post like this beg not to be taken seriously.

No one likes a liar. Slick words don't make the lies any sweeter.

I don't really have a goal. But so far as what this place NEEDS, it is a real toning down of the emotional hysteria (a lot of it exhibited in this thread) and a return to fact-based, rational atheism.

If there's a way I can further that goal, I'm happy.

My dear Delicate, (nothing speaks of emotion like such a name)

Grow up, please.

You might be right. But the poor quality of responses is not limited to Dorfl.

I can demonstrate it in many established posters. It's certainly not limited to newcomers.

You'll have to give me a little time. Some of the people here seem a little less than welcoming. But we'll see how it goes.
