Much to my surprise, the artist behind this is actually not responsible for the opeining theme to Preacher, even if the production on both The Last Days of Oakland and that song seem almost identical.

"In the Pines" is my favorite oft repeated/covered folk song.

Well, here's my favourite version of that song:






And here's his favourite version of the song (to the extent that, apparently during post-production of the Unplugged sessions, Kurt Cobain insisted on calling it "Where Did You Sleep Light", though Kurt Loder preferred "In the Pines.")






Of course, I suppose his discovery of it from another Seattle musician might have helped (fun fact: according to the liner notes, Kurt played guitar and sang backing vocals on this version; Krist also played bass.)
