Quote:In the 15 minutes preceding and 30 minutes following the arrival of 2015, police received 147 gun-related calls, including 130 reports of shots fired, 16 “person with a gun” calls, and one confirmed shooting.
The year before, police handled 179 such calls for service.
Police acknowledged that it is difficult to pin down how prevalent celebratory gunfire is, but say officers have reported minutes of sustained gunfire in some areas that has prompted them to seek temporary shelter under bridges.

Columbus Ohio!
The wife and I were visiting a buddy of mine in downtown C-Bus on new years. I was sitting on his porch smoking before the ball dropped, freezing my boys off, a little tipsy....when this happened. The article above doesn't do it justice, you'd have to have heard it. The night positively burst open with sustained small arms fire. Nobody warned me about this (the wife could have..she grew up there), so it came out of the blue. My sphincter closed up so tight, so fast, I could have cracked a chestnut.
What......the fuck?

I learned that my new dog does not like gunfire. Fireworks do not bother him.
Somehow he knows the difference.

Curious, that you even have to adress that issue.

He was not afraid, mind you. I've had dogs who were afraid of fireworks and they try to find somewhere to hide. Fred was looking out the window and giving a low growl. When a Golden Retriever growls, you pay attention.

My border collie didn't like fireworks when I first got her, but she eventually relaxed.
She still doesn't like thunder, however.
But she's too much of a dominant dog to cower and hide.
Instead, when there's a lot of thunder,
she just gets up from wherever she is, trots to my bedroom,
jumps up on the bed, and sits beside me,
looking from me, to the window, to me, to the window, to me, to the window...
...and her attitude seems to say,
" Oh, OF COURSE I'm not scared....I just thought YOU might be. "

My dog loves to hear a 303 go off. He thinks it means meat. Any other cal though...not a fan. -That- is some quality conditioning. Pongooooooo!
