You mean zero welfare money? That problem? We're not some hippy dippy eurozone country doling out money to illegals. We work them hard for criminal wages and threaten deportation if they so much as look up from the ground and into our eyes.

One problem that might be an issue is how much welfare money goes towards illegal immigrants.
Yes, and? Since when is it illegal to be human? Humans have always migrated. And if you were under threat of starvation, crime or fleeing war, and especially if you had a family, don't fucking tell me you wouldn't make the attempt.
How about this, how about if we take those people out of the shadows and pay EVERYONE a livable wage regardless of nationality, end corporate welfare, and even legal people would not have to depend on government as much.
The problem with "fuck em" is that it causes them to live in the shadows and as a result they pay less in taxes and also have a tendency to be victims of crime which they don't report. That in turn makes it harder for police to do their jobs.
But it is sick to use a cattle car blanket solution "deport them all", which we'd have to pay for and only an idiot thinks we could do that suddenly.
I am for deporting violent people no matter where they come from. But no, I will not use blanket guilt by association to do that. I refuse to break up a non violent family, especially those with kids who got here through no fault of their own. I refuse to send someone back to where they might starve or be murdered.
I think all these xenophobes think boarders magically make us a separate species. It is really easy to judge others when you are not the one trying to survive.
You want to attack welfare? Go after the Kochs, the Walmart Family, GE, NFL, and big banks. I find it sick to blame desperate people who need help.

I think it is sad that in the richest country in the world, even people legally born here get so desperate they commit crimes just so they can go to jail to get medical treatment.

I honestly don't think you can ascribe intent to a man with Alzheimer's.

Reagan, while being a dick in office, seems to have been rather liberal privately. His daughter, can't be arsed to look up her name, told the story of watching a Rock Hudson movie with him. She told him that it didn't look like as if Hudson really wanted to kiss the female lead. Reagan, according to her, simply responded by saying that there are men loving men and women loving women without being judgmental. Also he's got a vocal atheist for a son and they didn't seem to have had major issues about it. Reagan's fault rather lies in not carrying that attitude into office.

I doubt he had it his entire presidency. I think everyone around him would have said something, especially his doctors if they thought he was that far gone.
But it does make you wonder what got affected late in his second term. When exactly was he diagnosed with it?
Crap, I am perfectly healthy and sometimes forget where I put my keys.

Hate to say this, but unfortunately it can be political suicide to be open. Pete Stark has been the only open atheist in congress. Barney Frank didn't talk about his homosexuality for a long time and only came out as an atheist after he left office. I'd bet even in both parties there are in the closet atheists. But because both liberals and conservatives are a majority believers, while many liberals would consider an atheist for office, it still seems far too taboo at the national scale right now. But even that is slowly changing.
Even with the founders, by the time Jefferson died slavery was gone in most of the North. Several of the founders were abolitionists, so in reality, the idea of ending slavery began long before the civil war.
I think Ron Jr is a great guy, so his dad had to do some things right, at least as a father. I think Reagan did what most politicians have to do to get elected, tell the public what they want to hear, instead of what they need to know.

Cheiney has a lesbian daughter, but by all accounts, they're not getting along well.
But, as for the general problem. This, as everything when it comes to atheism, is a much bigger problem in the USA than anywhere else in the Western world. We have an openly atheist president at the end of his second term. Not as powerful as the US office, but he still got elected by a landslide because he's a decent guy. And that's saying something, considering my general opinion of politicians. Berlin, for about a decade had an openly gay mayor, as had Hamburg or Paris. The German liberal party, not to be mistaken for the American definition of liberal, had an openly gay chairman for over a decade, who even made it to being vice chancellor in a conservative administration.

That sir is the truth. Every politician tells the people what they think they want to hear to get elected.
I don't know anyone that doesn't fall into this.

Don't feel bad. I have searched for my keys only to find them in my hand.
