Zika virus/microcephaly/abortion/Brazil

Zika virus/microcephaly/abortion/Brazil
In light of the virus outbreak, the link to microcephaly with the associated medical consequences, and the current abortion laws, a debate on changing the laws in Brazil and other countries is heating up.

Personally, I think there needs to be a change. If abortion is legal for anencephaly there need to be a debate/change for consideration for other medical conditions.

Care to weigh in?

Should be legal, end of.

I'm sure despite the Zika virus, the church will do the wrong thing.

I'd almost be surprised if they'd even think spraying for skeeters is a good idea.

Definitely. If there's a medical problem, abortion should be legal.

BTW, I wouldn't jump to conclusions that Zika is causing the deformities. Other factors may be involved. It will be interesting to see how far it spreads, as that will be a clue to the cause.

You're correct. No conformation evidence yet, only a link. Will that derail the debate? Will the powers in charge state that until cause and effect evidence exists there is no need to consider a change or expand the discussion to other birth defects?

We should operate on the understanding that we are discussing courses of action that should be considered if one is established.
Obviously if evidence is uncovered it isn't causing the deformities it becomes a moot point.

To be fair I don't think anyone here would assume otherwise but you never know.

I think that this should open the door for a discussion regarding other birth defects. There are more fatal birth defects than anenchphaly, i.e. Trisomy 18.

How many such birth defects were there before Zika?  How many are there now?  Just saying....
