Artificial intelligence does not necessarily mean emulating human brain. Few decades before Wright Brothers you could have said, that creating flying machines heavier than air was not going to advance, because the action of bird's wings is extremely difficult to replicate. Which it is - but that turned out to be a non sequitur. You don't need to flap like a bird to fly and - most likely - you don't need to be human-like to be intelligent.
And anyway - people have been achieving EXTREMELY difficult things all throughout history.

Admit it, you set this thread up specifically with staging a fight in mind, and that's called trolling, not discussion. You posited a question which you solicited replies to, and I gave you one. Most people seem to agree that mine was well thought out and reasonable, if not pleasant or hopeful. You didn't like my reality undercutting your fantasy, and your responses were insanely childish and insulting, which is consistent with your typical behavior on this forum. "Discussion" with you is at best like clapping with one hand - which actually can be done when the one hand hits you in the face, but since I try not to be a violent guy, and you deserve nothing better for the violence you commit here, we're done.
So now you're accusing me of trolling? Again, you have the report function for that.
You feel bad I disagreed with you? I'm sorry, Hanky, but I won't agree with you simply because it's my thread. It's not happening. As it is I noticed some flaws within your response to my own scenario and I pointed them out. You chose yourself to attack my position, in a way, not actually answering any of my real questions but answering one you made up yourself in your mind just so you could be argumentative. You brought my criticism of your ideas on yourself, and you didn't like it when it came. You started whining about it, screaming and calling me names, instead of defending your position any further. Not to mention all this pointing fingers business that you seem to think works in your favor.
I never asked you to agree with me, and I don't have to agree with you. I posted a reasoned opinion without being a dick about it, and you reacted by spraying your troll jizz in my face - I won't be having that, therefore you can go fuck yourself.

I have no idea what path human improvement will take. No doubt it will involve growing pains as every major advance does. I'm just certain that it will go forward for the same reason other advances do: It's an improvement over what came before. We will want it.

I'll kindly ask you to stop flaming me and calling me a troll. You've showed you're not interested in having a rational discussion about it and only interested in calling me names.

I don't think you understand.. Aeroplanes can be standardised but humans cannot be, take voice recognition for example, you could teach a computer how an average human being would pronounce "aeroplane" but then someone could pronounce the same word in their own way which would be undetectable.. furthermore recent AI design approach include storing a number of predefined scenarios and letting the AI act out on it, introduce a new scenario and the ai render useless. also ive read somewhere that an ai which is light years away from emulating a human brain use up about the same electricity as that of a whole town to power up the computational resources....there are a LOT of obstracles that im doubtful anything remotely emulating the human brain would be possible in the coming 50 years though major advancements are probably possible

Again, I refer you to the two books I recommended earlier. Depending on your level of expertise on the matter or lack thereof you should read Barrat's work on the matter(more readable for a lay audience) or Bostrom's(covering all bases).

The future creation of General Artificial Intelligence and why we're going in that direction.

It's two different books from different authors, pool. I'm sure you'll appreciate them. I wouldn't tell you to read something you wouldn't find interesting, given your opinions on the matter.
