The Future

Somewhere with a forest. I would spend alot of money to make sure I had all I needed, that I had internet and so a lens to view the outside world from but I would not participate in it. I would fund the development of an AI that would eventually be responsible for governing Earth. Occasionally I would exert my influence if I felt it necessary. Keep the wheels turning. Make sure viable space travel is created so when the time comes I can evacuate this shit heap of a planet. I would meld with a specially developed spacecraft becoming a seamless combination of flesh and machine, fusing my brain with devices specially designed to expand my consciousness.
I would scatter humanity into the cosmos and then separate from it. I would get lost in the stars. The dark void of deep space would become my home. Eventually I would forget Earth, humanity, everything from before. I would simply be a wanderer exploring the cosmos for all eternity, forever searching for some measure of freedom. From space, from time, from myself.

Given the choice I would pursue the same life whether I were mortal, immortal or anywhere inbetween; a travelers life.
The only difference would be scope.

That's beautiful.

I read the book before I ever saw the movie, and I recall the story being fundamentally different, but no less chilling. In fact, the differences are pointed out here: https://julieisrael.wordpress.com/2013/0...k-vs-film/

Really? Take me to candyland, please. It seems, you discovered a new dimension, I wasn't aware of.

You sound like a conspiracy nut, frankly. You do, I'm not trying to offend you or anything.

If you weren't trying to offend, then you wouldn't say that at all. You'd give the words of others more thought before you responded to them at all. Which you never do, and that's why you are you.

Well, tell me, does your insurance cover every prosthetic on the market? How about wheelchairs? Does it cover teeth implants? Does it get you to the top of the list when in need of an organ? How about not life saving surgery? How's your waiting list these days?

That's based on real world statistics, published by official channels, such as surgeon generals of different countries, not conspiracy websites.

I take your point but that's quite the leap to go from those realities to the extremely polarised scenario you described earlier.

I see you agree that I offended you, abaris. Tell me then, why did you mock me and how did you expect me to react exactly?

No, I didn't agree on being offended. I merely agreed that you don't look at the realities at hand and take it from there. The conclusion is obvious. Not everything will be available to everyone. Unless you create an ideal society. And that I find highly unlikely.

My bad, I thought giving kudos in this case to a certain post was equal to an endorsement. It seems you would argue otherwise.

I think things are not so black and white. We should certainly strive for idealism, but nobody is saying we'll ever get there. We should still try, there's no other option. So I don't see what your point is, really. Are you merely complaining about something without pointing to a better alternative?
