I think that if you just start the game, others will jump in when they can. Given that it's an ongoing type of game you will have people come in and out all the time.

SC, we need at least one mod to decide outcomes? You in to start off?
Also, as Judi said, maybe we won't make it a race, maybe we wait till 5 photos have been submitted and we decide democratically which one is the cleverest? Just thoughts at this stage. Also, if you've got, eg, a relo with a blue kettle on the other side of america, can they photo it with a handwritten username of you without you actually writing it? I think this will work. Because the stories alone people will need to say to convince others to do these convoluted things could be funnier than the actual photo!

I think you could "moderate" your own thread, as far as judging winners and what not.
