While the spelling is correct the words have completely different meanings.
"None of us can get off this rock in mass"...en masse
"we fight over boarders"...borders
"global corporatism has no boarders."
Sloppy writing reduces one's credibility.
Dude, I don't get paid a dime for this. I understand what you are saying, and I do try to correct myself more than you think. Believe me, if I had a job and a staff, I'd have the best speller in the world checking my work.

But we can't afford to get into bad habits because we might end up making them in business or legal correspondence and that will be very costly. The good news is that I read every word you write so you have at least one loyal reader. I am not disagreeing with you as much as you think. YES spelling is important. But I am also not going to commit suicide over it either. I would never dream of writing a book or writing for a job without someone checking my work who was a perfect speller. I really do look at that red line and respond to it. But even with that there are things that can have similar spellings. I had no clue that mien and mein are both correct. Just like there and their are both correct. And I cannot tell you how many times I have gone back and noticed an obvious mistake and hit edit to fix it. Twitter is horrible as far as fostering good spelling. You find yourself many times reading tweets using "U" instead of "you" and "R" instead of "are". I get it. Nobody should want a uneducated society. But like I said, in an informal setting as a mere member and not the owner of the page, you can rightfully point out an error without becoming a Nazi. That is flattering, but in all seriousness, I never want anyone to like what I write to the point of blindness. Unlike some famous people, not that I am famous, but even with my close friends, I don't want to be surrounded by yes people. I never every want to lose being grounded. Self esteem is one thing, but hubris and ego are nothing to be proud of. I never want to become a narcissist. |
