It occurs naturally in nature... so no.

Plus we don't even want to get started on the Naturalistic Fallacy/deriving an 'ought' from an 'is'...
'We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.' H.L. Mencken

'False religion' is the ultimate tautology.

'It is just like man's vanity and impertinence to call an animal dumb because it is dumb to his dull perceptions.' Mark Twain

'I care not much for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.' Abraham Lincoln

I certainly would like to get into that actually. I'm very interested in the whole 'is'/'ought' thing lately.

On another thread of course.

Mr. O Wrote:but lesbians in my experience seem aggressive and I don't like that.I don't know why that is.
I have not noticed that. all the lesbians I know aren't more aggressive then anyone else. One couple that I was in a class of mine last year– both of them were pretty quiet.

actually, I think that's a stereotype. Lesbians have to be more manly and gays have to be more feminine.

I don't think I should talk about the naturalistic fallacy. Otherwise rape might get brought up again.

I don't know. It kinda seems a bit premature.

Well some gays are feminine. They call it camp and mincing although I don't know what that means.I suppose it is a stereotype but you must admit, many of them do act like that. And some of them are what they call butch so I suppose not all of them fulfill the stereotype, but maybe butch is itself also a stereotype, maybe there are many different styles.I once walked into a gay bar by mistake (I promise) and I noticed that many of the men there did have a certain way of behaving, certain mannerisms that I wouldn't expect from a straight man.
Maybe what I said about lesbians isn't always true,it's just my impression that's all.

Well, I think the gay community has by now developed their own sub-culture to some extent (like many groups who identify under one or more commonalities), which becomes more or less obvious depending on how immersed you are among that group. So, there are a lot of things acceptable and encouraged among them that aren't with the population at large, including allowing gay men to act more effeminate (even going as far as dressing in drag) or otherwise flamboyant or lesbians to be more masculine.
Yet, that in no way, of course, means that they do, but it seems more encouraged so they can have a community that supports their lifestyle and ability to choose a partner of the same gender.

But as far as lesbians being 'butch' and gay men being 'feminine' - that stereotype does come from somewhere and a person's sexual orientation is a genetic factor that can in fact influence their attitude in a manner that does tend to lead to that stereotype in many cases. So... yeah. I'm not sure what point I was trying to make, but yeah... stuff and things. The variety and spice of life and such.

You can be atheist and homophobic but when you take away religious reasons for it, all there is left is the "yuk" factor. That's fair enough.
In the Ancient world it wAs quite "normal" to indulge in gay sexual relationships. Many famous figures in history where gay/bi. Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar etc. Nobody gave a damn before religions started saying "that's against gods plan." god made everyone so you believe. Well he made some gay and some not so it's god's fault innit?

On another thread of course.

Perhaps we could discuss it on the 'Theistic Morality' thread. After all, it's my bloody thread, I can do what I want on it. Smile

By the way, why has our Nigerian Christian friend been banned?

Is that so? I wondered why they'd both been banned at around the same time. Luckily, I could never be banned, because all of the mods are my sock puppets. They don't know it, of course, but they're all fictional constructs inside my mind. Everybody is!
