Law under government certainly entitles everyone to their own opinions, but in science, nobody is entitled to their own facts.
The experts on spanking say it only works SHORT TERM but not for good reasons, it is still rule out of fear, and negative reinforcement with physical pain does have long term affects. They can become bullies themselves, and become the verbally abusive boss, or they can go on to abuse their kids. And for those like me, it can cause trust issues and increase anxiety and depression.
Authoritarian rule is not love, it is dictation and "obey me or else" which has nothing to do with setting a child up to be well adjusted with good conflict resolution skills.
You do NOT need to cause physical pain to get a child to do what you want. If you cant do that, then the problem is you, not the kid. Spanking is just one avenue of the larger training system I have been talking about. your arguement that only focuses in the process of breaking a child from his unwanted behavior is not an honest assessment of the system as a whole. Because one you break a child of his foolish ways you have to replace it with something else. To spank and walk away is foolishness
Keep ignoring the experts. An I know what spanking did to me, so.

Whaddya know: perfect timing:
Disciplinary Spanking Increases Childhood Defiance and Mental Health Issues
As reported on RedOrbit.com:
Quote:If you think that the answer to an unruly child is a good spanking, think again, say researchers from the Universities of Texas and Michigan, who after extensive analysis found that this form of punishment only makes youngsters more likely to be defiant and aggressive.
Their study, which was published in the April edition of the Journal of Family Psychology, was based on five decades worth of research involving more than 160,000 children. They are calling it the most extensive scientific investigations into the spanking issue, and one of the few to look specifically at spanking rather than grouping it with other forms of physical discipline.
And...
Quote:Furthermore, they noted that spanking was associated with the same adverse outcomes in children as physical abuse, and both were nearly similar in terms of outcome strength.
“We as a society think of spanking and physical abuse as distinct behaviors. Yet our research shows that spanking is linked with the same negative child outcomes as abuse, just to a slightly lesser degree,” explained Gershoff. “We hope that our study can help educate parents about the potential harms of spanking and prompt them to try positive and non-punitive forms of discipline.”
The Abstract of the Journal of Family Psychology Article
But yeah they're probably wrong.

Don't worry, my friend. If this be the end, then so shall it be.

Everyone having the remotest interest in psychology and it's findings already knew that. I wouldn't expect OP to fall into that category, but there's a reason why they penalized beatings by teachers as early as the 60ies in most countries and moved on to call it abuse when parents are doing it also. And that reason isn't pulled from some collective ass but psychology delivering the data.
It's also that forensic psychology and profiling found out that not everyone having been abused moves on to be a serial offender, but every serial offender had been abused as a child. Physically and/or sexually.

Just need to whip 'em harder. Pussies.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Drich doesn't understand the role of empathy in our society. This is a perfect example of how we all benefit from humans having empathy even if someone like Drich does not have it himself.
You probably don't know their names, but 30 years ago, they saved Europe
Quote:"Our experts studied the possibility and concluded that the explosion would have had a force of three to five megatons," said Soviet physicist Vassili Nesterenko. "Minsk, which is 320 kilometers from Chernobyl, would have been razed and Europe rendered uninhabitable."
Quote:Just one available man knew the location of the release valve. His name was Alexei Ananenko, and he was one of the plant's engineers. He along with fellow engineer Valeri Bezpalov and shift supervisor Boris Baranov were asked to take on what amounted to a suicide mission.
