Heresy Hypothesis
|
If I understand correctly, there are religious sects that do not accept/follow (what have you) the Nicene Creed, yet still call themselves 'Christian'. These sects are not truly Christian according to fr0d0 and those (the vast majority) that do accept said creed. So, this is a large scale case of 'No True Scotsman' backed up with the 'Argument from Authority'.
Is that about right? RE: Heresy Hypothesis

lol. Like I've said, small groups of non Christians (according to the mainstream Christian church's benchmark) are not Christians according to that benchmark. They still call themselves Christians, confusing the fuk out of you poor atheists, who throw it all into the bag and try to tell mainstream Christians what Christian means, encompassing the minority of crazees beliefs into the mix.
You then falsely tell mainstream Christians that they as Christians aren't firm in their belief, and accuse them of miriad standards. "Nicene creed you say" ...gafaw! "JW's are Christians too dontchaknow!" So. I wonder if that sinks in for anyone? No? Ah well....
Don't worry fr0d0, I understand at least
Sorry Adrian I missed your previous post which clarify's the point succinctly.
Cant we just call the christianity that Frodo follows 'mainstream christianity' and the others as other branches of christianity?
there are lots of non-nicene creed believers who still consider themselves christians, who am I to say they arent? I certainly think of JWs as a group of christains even if they dont pass the Frodo test. You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid. Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis. RE: Heresy Hypothesis

Yes DBP I agree. Christians call those cults, but I don't think that's an appropriate label from non Christians.
'Non mainstream Christians' might include them all? I always called them cults to their faces as atheist and Christian myself. I find it gets a better response
Why do those who call themselves mainstream Christians get to define what really is "Christian"?
They don't. They get to define what mainstream Christian is.
So yes, it's the NTS fallacy to claim only they are Christians.
