There's a detailed explanation in the film beetlejuice
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

Purgatory is probably to try to make the idea of hell a bit more palatable, since instead of scaring people into converting, you might scare people away from christianity. Hard to convince people that your god is a good guy when he plans to throw the majority of the population into a lake of fire for not believing in him.
Not quite right, the Bible speaks of a penalty for an unborn baby's death, death for the one who caused it. We've been through this so many times on this forum how did you manage to miss it.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

What about when your murderous god says its okay, G-C?
But god is above all morals because he's the source of all morals - especially the evil ones...
