Here's why European unity isn't such a bad idea

RE: Here's why European unity isn't such a bad idea
I'm lost. Who is saying that it's a bad idea? Why bad? Should this not have happened decades ago?
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

Yep, fight world wars to keep your country's sovereignty and end up giving democratic and legislative powers to unelected European officials by choice anyway. Oh the irony.

*edit, oh wait my bad, this thread is just about "European unity" and nothing at all to do with the EU referendum. My mistake...

Because the EU basically wants to become one big massive superstate. Member nations are already losing their sovereignty. People voted for an economic union, not what it has become.

Pretty soon will be the 100th anniversary of the Somme.  The British can celebrate that one.

Well, they are kinda hinting at the EU referendum in the article.

Adopt one nation/ multi state government system. Some losses, some gains.

What has it become?

Sorry, not up on EU politics.

I was being sarcastic. One of the main notions for the people who seem to argue for remain is they muddy the waters by saying Europe should be united and that it's a good thing. I think you'd find it hard to find anyone who doesn't agree with this, and voting to leave doesn't necessarily mean you disagree with the sentiment. What people seem to want to do is equate this wishy washy notion of 'unity' with what the European Union actually is currently, and insinuate that voting to leave would necessarily be to the detriment of this vague idea of such unity.

Which reminds me of this.

Who's dictating by the way? You are aware that the EU is the sum of the national politicians? Whatever bullshit of overlord dictator they may spew after they parked their asses in Brussels.

Which is kind of outdated, according to newer historical research. In WWI the Germans had no territorial interests, other than preserving their status quo and to be accepted as an equal player. As for colonialism, Germany wasn't any better or worse than Britain or France. Which is still abysmal, but never compare Germany of WWI to Germany in WWII. There's lightyears of differences between the systems. Even more so, since the whole war effort was in need of parliamentary agreement, with the Socialists being one of the strongest factions at the time. Parliament had to release the funds.
