I think the OP is merely trying to say that the story from the bible was probably inspired by an actual event its authors witnessed.

That's still an unproven claim, but it's certainly plausible.

What's also plausible is that no one event inspired the story, but that the mere knowledge of floods and a hyperactive imagination did.

Sure and most people acknowleged that. But the biblical flood is told to cover the whole world.

The biblical flood never happened. I'm giving him a way out of the mess he created here, it's up to him if he takes it.

Careful EP, or you will be accused of not being able to think outside of the deity's box.

You know I think that's the third or fourth time I've offered to actually model a flood on these boards and just been left hanging.

Sadface, I like rain.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I like to think it means this:

but then I would, wouldn't I?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Stolen from Sumerian mythology ( Atrahasis, Ziusudra, Gilgamesh ).  Exceedingly unlikely that the Judaean desert ever saw enough water to warrant such stories.  No one would ever confuse the Jordan for the Euphrates, Tigris or Nile... all of which did flood.
