Giving this another go....

RE: Giving this another go....
A tip is to always have a pack of gum on hand. Don't chew the gum unless you feel a craving for the cigarette.

I don't have first hand experience with smoking but I do know how hard it can be to give up the habit especially when one associates as a stress-reliever in a stressful life. My only suggestion would be to figure out your strongest motivation for quitting and make sure to never forget that motivation again. Maybe you could share your motivation for quitting with us, and others might share their experiences, that way you can just look back in this thread whenever you feel the urge and be reminded why you wanted to kick the habit in the first place...

Totally loving this idea.

Okay, my reasons for quitting are:

1. My kids have asked me to quit. By far, the most important reason.
2. I'm tired of smelling like cigarette smoke.
3. I'm tired of not being able to really taste my food.
4. I want to get healthy.
5. I am 90% sure I'm ready this time.
6. I'm tired of depending on asthma medications, more so when I'm sick.

I don't know if there's any correlation to allergies (seasonal, hayfever etc) and smoking, but if I quit smoking, I think doing so might help raise my immune system up to better fight my allergies that I have.

Within the next month, I'd like to join a beginners yoga class. I understand not only can that help me lose weight, but it can also help me with my asthma.

Rob quit two months ago and recently confessed to me that he's been smoking one or two a day at work when he bums a smoke from a co-worker. I can't be mad at him for that. He went from darn near two packs a day, down to nothing for five weeks and now he's just one or two a day.

Our bad habits weren't formed over night and it's a huge process for both of us but I think I will have success this time around because I'm not constantly around smokers all day and because I'm in a working salon at school, smokers tend to use body spray and breath mints after they have a cigarette break.

Yeah, I would be smoking two packs a day too, if I didn't have any restraint. In fact I used to, it was the only way cigarettes could satisfy me at one point. And the stronger the tobacco, the better.

I'm glad I got down to at least one pack a day since then, though. And I hope it works this time too.

Admittedly, I started smoking when I was ten years old. My mother owned a deli and sold smokes there. After school, I would sneak a pack of cigs, go out back, walk down the hill and light up. She was a smoker as was most of the adults around me or in my family so they never really smelled the cigarette smoke on me, per say, because it was also on them. I didn't get caught until I was 13. I got in plenty of trouble for that, but it didn't stop me. Look at the influences I had. I think if I quit now, the chances of my own kids not wanting to start will be better. I've always gone outside to smoke, even in the winter. I've tried to be courteous and not smoke around them but if I'm outside, they're going to see me smoking.

I can honestly say that at least I did not smoke while I was pregnant. But I'm not interested in trying to quit that way lol.

You need an intern.

That way there's always something on hand to kick.

You can have mine!

Okay, send him over.

Do I have to feed him? If so, how many times a day and will bread and water be enough?

You grew up during a time when smoking was still considered cool. It makes sense, through no fault of your own, that you would follow the cool crowd.

No, you don't have to feed hi. But, if you do, once a day. And bread and water is fine.
