I'm full blooded Texan. I claim Texas instead of America if someone asks where I am from. I love my state more than anything else.

I feel ya.  West coast is thought of now as a bastion of liberality but Southern California was once John Birch country.  And those people didn't just all up and move somewhere else.  Every place is diverse.  Just some places you kind of got to hide your diversity more than others.
