Again, there is no purpose involved or implied in the concept...I don't know why you keep referring to purpose.  You could assign it that purpose, but that would be another issue.

Is there some inherent purpose to the abstract concept of numbers...to that necessary being...or did we assign it a purpose - namely, for counting things?

Because "necessary" implies "purpose". An infinite existence is not a necessary existence.
