I picked the Texans, too.
I'm thinking it's time for a change of strategy. I'm going to start trying to figure out what team will win and picking the opposite.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
I have been laughing at the idea that the Pats would be hurt by Brady not being there. If you look at dynasty teams over the decades what you always see is depth.

If you look at dynasty teams over the decades what you always see is depth. I dunno, I feel like our strongest position is at QB with Brady. We don't have any "top of the league" wide receivers (Edelman is great, but he's no Odell Beckham Jr, Dez Bryant, etc.), we don't really have any "top of the league" running backs either, though you might be able to argue for Blount this season. We have the best TE in the league, no doubt, but Gronk hasn't played for the first two games and he barely played yesterday.
Yea but again, the Skins of the 80s always found a way to compensate when the starters were out. It still amounts to balance and consistency and depth. If any of those things are off on any side of the ball it produces weakness and you lose. It is why I fucking hate Dan Snyder. Draft season after draft season we get a star here or star there, but have been spotty at best.
It isn't enough to have a star. If you put Brady behind our line he'd be running for his life. A dominate team that makes the playoffs year after year has all 6 cylinders firing consistently regardless of who is in each play. If that is what your second and third string can do, I'd love for Washington to have that problem. A win is a win is a win.
I agree. I guess I'm just used to our defense being pretty crappy, our offensive line being awful, and the team being basically held together by Brady when it gets tough. We saw that team last week to some degree. Garoppolo puts up 21 unanswered points, then gets injured, and suddenly the defense is crap. An apt comparison is the Denver regular game last year, where Brady keeps the team 14 points ahead for half the game, but with Edelman and Gronk injured, a depleted offensive line, the defense just got destroyed and let CJ Anderson rush multiple times for a touchdown.
I'm happy though; this seems like a new Patriots team this week. Let's keep it up!
A win is a win but I hate trick plays because they show desperation and hardly if ever work like this one. Oh and for all those who didn't pick the Skins this week HA HA!
