Jesus earliest followers were supposed to be commie pinkos.
That the practice has fallen out of favor since Jesus time is not a problem for atheists, its a problem for contemporary era Christians.
er, well, contemporary era Christians who aren't commie pinkos, obviously.

My favorite Mormon schism, the Banymeeites (Congregation of Jehovah's Presbytery of Zion) were ostensibly LDS Christian commie pinkos.
Didn't work out too well for them, but I don't think God (Michael, Adam, Moroni, whoever) slew anyone for not being very good at it . . . .

There's one quote by Karl Marx on religion. And that's pretty famous and most often wrongly quoted. It's also not in his books but in a reply to Hegel. From 1843, I believe. Even before the revolutions of 1848/49.
Quote:Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people
That's the exact quote, and try as I might, it doesn't condemn religion but voices understanding for it's need.
That's the German original.
There's a sentence before the above quoted. It reads: Religious mysery is the expression of real mysery and at the same time the protest against the real mysery.
That said, many of the proponents of the so called communist regimes were indeed atheists. But what they did and how they constructed their socities wasn't done in the name of atheism but based on the ideas of Karl Marx, violating them at the same time. In the GDR of old, which is a lesser known fact, there was even a party system of sorts. Puppet parties, of course, but you could cast a vote for the Christian Democrats, which could send delegates to the people's assembly.

It's just as well. There would be a hell of a lot of people suddenly dropping dead for the 'sin' of holding onto a portion of the profits from sales of real estate.

Well, Christer history is replete with various sinners being garroted, burned, disemboweled, broken on the wheel, skinned, and boiled alive. That no one today can be bothered to enforce a stricture is truly a shame, ain't it ??

Isn't an RCC convent a great example of communism that actually works? It's kind of interesting that the RCC has a hate on for communism, when a convent is pretty much a basic example. Or did I miss the memo?

To the extent convents are subsidized by the collection plates, I'm of 2 opinions on that,
yes, communism/socialism works as long as someone else funds it
-however-
it's my understanding it's not supposed to work that way
