Sort of a complicated question, I'll try to ask. How was I born me and not another?
RE: Sort of a complicated question, I'll try to ask. How was I born me and not another?
Just -asking- that question, in response to that post, isn't something you can legitimately do after all this business with asking about the chances of this or that, you realize?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

That may well be because there ain't no reason you're you and I'm me outside of our experiences.

So I guess no one knows the answer to my question.

Because somebody had to be you. If it wasn't you, then who?

There are far more permutations of words representing seemingly coherent questions than have coherent answers.

Everyone has been more than polite and very understanding in their attempt to unfuck your question; it's a bullshit question and your constant dismissal, in the guise of understanding, suggests you're intentionally being obtuse.

If you want to understand the events that led to your parents fucking, ask them. That is why who you are and not someone else. Fuck not being the kid down the street, if a different sperm cell got there faster than yours, YOU wouldn't be around to ask this insipid question.

I am now suspect of your motivations here. I think you're trolling for a chink in the armor to fill with your notion of god. 12 pages in, I suggest you put him in a divet at your local golf course. Perhaps there, if real, he will finally be of some use.

Dude, you need to chill out. I'm "trolling for a chink in the armor to fill with my notion of god"? Okay, first of all, back off, because that's a gross misrepresentation of me as a person. You don't know me, and that's not what I am about at all. I came to this forum because I'm an atheist and I want to be around people who share my same values, smart people who have their mind in the right place and I could have something to gain from. I think atheists in general are more rational than religious folks.

So please, do not accuse me of being a religious person in disguise.

To be honest if you were, you wouldn't be the first.

I hope some day religion is completely wiped off of the face of this earth. I think magical thinking is a byproduct of the infancy of human logic, and I hope that in this age of science, technology, and free information, that eventually we will move past it. I feel, all the time living on this planet, that I'm alienated from a lot of other people. One of the reasons for this is that I feel people don't think critically, so I am always liable to the people around me being magical thinkers. I am not one of those, and from the time I was just a young teenager, I remember being extremely upset about all the religion that surrounds me. It's been a point of extreme disappointment in my life, seeing how religion poisons absolutely everything around me. I see that religion is 100% worthless, people don't need god to be moral, people don't need to waste money building opulent structures to worship things that don't exist. And we don't need all the violence, and ignorance that comes from dogmatic thinking, and doctrines which fundamentally go against the scientific method.

I hate religion, so please DO NOT... EVER accuse me of being a religious person, because that is everything I'm not and it's everything I fight against in my miserable life. It's what I hope will one day be rid of in this world.

You have alot to say about critical thought.  Perhaps you should try to use some regarding the subject of this thread? Imagining that you could have been a rock, or that babies come from hamburgers, or that if you hadn't been born you'd have remained dead are all just as magical as any wish granting fairy.
