RE: How open are you with your Atheism?

Unless the subject naturally comes up on conversation, I don't see the need for someone to announce their religious views (or lack thereof). If anyone has a problem with what you do or do not believe in, that's their problem.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

That's what I think, and that's how I live my life. I don't care about someone else's religion and assume they don't care about my atheism, unless we for some reason get into a great theological debate. I just don't see the need to bring it up.
Now my militant atheist nephew, on the other hand, seems to enjoy goading religious people into arguments as to why their beliefs are ridiculous. I've had to tell him to tone it down more than once, because he's no better than a Christian fundie who constantly tells someone they're going to burn in Hell if they don't accept Jesus.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

Yep.
People like that are doing the exact thing they accuse religious people of doing.

I mean, if I want to get my fill of arguing about religion, I'll just come here.

Yes. Oh wow. What a fun little cult AA is. I've had some experience 'in the rooms' and that program is an absolute nightmare. To each their own I guess.
I was very open about my atheism when I attended AA and have never in my life been met with more criticism and judgement for it.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.
It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.
Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

You mileage varies from mine. I live in Texas, and there's too much religion down here, but my home group, I don't hold my atheism private, and they don't beat me over the head for it. I don't attend too often any more -- though I probably still should, I'm still young in my recovery -- but it's not for any evangelism on their part.
From what I understand, each group has a personality of its own.
Good luck with your recovery. Whatever gets you through the night, 't's alright, 't's alright.
