Genders?

RE: Genders?
I think these new genders and gender identities are total bullshit. That's because all gender identity is total bullshit. Speaking from an American perspective (though this could apply elsewhere), gender and sexuality identities became a significant social construct only after World War II because the nuclear family model had no room for those uninterested in a wife and 2.5 children and a levittown. Not to say that these constructs didn't exist before the 1950s; they really started at the turn of the 20th century with Freud and other academics attempting to categorize and analyze everybody. But in the 1880s and earlier, gender and sexuality had no concrete social norm like it does today. But everybody has trouble believing this because the generation that grew up without these constructs is long dead. I recommend George Chauncey's Gay New York and Foucault's History of Sexuality to read up on this phenomena.

So yeah, I believe that the various gender identities are a natural byproduct of forcing people into certain identities. Nobody ever identified themselves as their gender before World War I, only their sex. Now everybody does. Weird "fake" genders is the step we take before we finally realize we shouldn't be forcing people into genders at all. It'll take some time.

All I know is that if people are allowed to express themselves in ways that aren't hurting people, then they lead happier lives. And when people are pushed down for being different, sometimes they'd rather commit suicide than continue living like that. So let people be who and what they want to be. As long as they aren't hurting others by doing it.

Most of all it's none of anyone's business how people want to live their lives.

@ Vic

I'm sorry to hear that you're not okay. I hope you feel better soon.

And, oh absolutely. Gender =/= sex but nor is it a social construct. Like there are transwomen and transmen whose neurology in their brains actually matches the sex they identify as. So gender identity matches the actual neurological gender. People identify with the experience of gender, indeed.

What sex is an XXX, XXY, XYY?

Triple X syndrome, also known as trisomy X and 47 XXX, is characterized by the presence of an extra X chromosomein each cell of a female.

Klinefelter syndrome (KS) also known as 47,XXY or XXY, is the set of symptoms that result from two or more X chromosomes in males.[1] The primary feature is sterility.[1]

XYY syndrome is a genetic condition in which a human male has an extra male (Y) chromosome

Wikipedia says.

Just saying, not XX or XY. So then what sex? And then what gender?

No.

Gender is, in ~99.7% defined by the person's sex. Which is defined by chromosomes. And sex chromosome trisomy and birth defects relating to the genitals are just that - birth defects. Not separate sexes. And they are incredibly rare. And in the case of their presence medical professionals still determine the sex of the newborn which does adhere to the 'gender binary' and the person goes on to live a normal life.

Gender is not the same as sex. But it is based on sex. Gender is the experienced sex, which can differ from biological sex, which manifests itself in gender dysphoria, aka transgendrism. But it is NOT socially constructed. Otherwise gender dysphoria would not exist.

Gender roles are certainly in part socially constructed. Like what colors boys and girls should like and what type of clothing they should wear. But some differences between genders are biological. There are physical differences between the brains of men and women and behavioral differences between genders that are the result of evolution.

That being said, I have no issue with anybody identifying as whatever they like. I don't care. Go for it. But that doesn't make it anything other than just your personal identifier. People who make up new gender identities mostly just rebel against gender roles. And I think that's fine.

The problem I have is when people like that - agender, bigender, genderqueer - claim to speak for actual transgenders just because they like the label. That just shits all over people who have an actual medical condition.

And forgot to add: in my experience at least it would appear that most people do not actively and strongly identify as their gender. Most just seem to go on about their lives without paying it much special attention. So I'd think it's a pretty common experience to not identify strongly with your gender as that seems to be the case for most people who aren't transgender.

Here is a video by a transwoman on the topic:

Lets talk about parrot fish sex!

RE: Genders?
Fuck, I dunno. Way I see it, sex is the hardware, gender is the software. So if people identify as man, woman, genderfluid, whatever, good for them. I only have so much rage to direct at the world and gender issues don't make the cut as far as I'm concerned.

Well wikipedia says there which ones are female and males.  I haven't looked into it beyond googling it to be totally honest but you've just looked at the information provided, not agreed or disagreed with it, disregarded it, asked the same question again along with another.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.
