Carrier stays in US

RE: Carrier stays in US
Huh.  I thought capitalists were all about free markets and not interfering with corporations.  I suppose that doesn't include bribing them.

Call it 'an incentive' all you like - it's a bribe.

Quote:Indiana agrees to a $7 million tax break to keep Carrier jobs in state: company

Quote:Indiana state officials have agreed to give United Technologies Corp $7 million worth of tax breaks to encourage the company to keep at least 1,069 jobs at its Carrier unit in Indianapolis, Carrier and the state said on Thursday.

Well, fuck them.  They voted for those two pieces of shit.  Let them subsidize a rich corporation like the rest of the republicunt bastards want.

Let's say that each job is worth $50,000 per year in salary and benefits. Multiply that by 1,069 That comes up to $53,450,000.00 per year that the community gets.

You would throw that away for $7,000,000? That really makes sense. Hey we can just put them on welfare and food stamps and save a ton.

It would be nice if we had a president-elect who knew what the fuck he was talking about.

But we don't.

Quote:Trump threatened to impose the same tariff on Carrier air conditioners from Mexico, advised boycotting Oreo cookies because Nabisco has a Mexican subsidiary and even boasted, “We’re going to get Apple to build their damn computers  in this country instead of other countries.”

He can’t do that.  No U.S. president has any right to tell private companies where they can produce or invest.  More obviously, no U.S. President has the legal authority to impose targeted tariffs or taxes on specific firms — simply to punish business decisions he doesn’t approve of.

The incentives he would need to offer to Apple would make that $7 million look like a freebie.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Hmm. I wonder what would 'incentivize' Trump to move to the US all of the factories that make the dreck he sells...

Disclaimer:

I get a United Technologies pension in a few years. I had no idea Carrier was part of it, and I also thought United Technologies did a far greater percentage of their business for the DoD. That's what I get for not looking at the information packets they send every autumn.

BTW, $7mil for ~1000 jobs sounds like a WAY better deal than the Solyndra fiasco . . .

Of course there are two sides to every story.... not that the republicunts ever want anyone to hear the other side.
