I'm the unfortunate person who has to deliberately ignore sarcasm, lest others take it seriously. That is, believe it or not, something I have to actively guard against - others' distorted perceptions. Even when it comes to posts only related to, but not posted by me. It's all the same to the dishonest and the hateful.

Yes, I am the party pooper, though not by choice.

You have a point. As for whether it is or it isn't, if you're referring to my description of Boru's suggestion that happens to completely invalidate the purpose of this particular forum we're posting in itself, then I don't know what the hell you're talking about. The man got a request in the OP to avoid committing precisely this sort of disruption of conversation, yet he insisted on doing it anyway. Which brings me to my next reply.

Use the report key if you think his post is out of bounds, but stop whining, jeez. Fucking crybaby. Once a thread is set free in the wild, it takes on a life of its own. If you can't deal with that, that's your goddamned problem.

Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin' and cryin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

You say you haven't been the same since you had your little crash
But you might feel better if I gave you some cash
The more I think about it, Old Billy was right
Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight
You don't want to work, you want to live like a king
But the big, bad world doesn't owe you a thing

Get over it, Get over it

It's like going to confession every time I hear you speak
You're makin' the most of your losin' streak
Some call it sick, but I call it weak

You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass

Get over it
Get over it
All this bitchin' and moanin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

Get over it
Get over it
It's gotta stop sometime, so why don't you quit
Get over it, get over it

I've found it difficult to follow this argument but I think I agree with penguin if I've got it right.

There's a new rule that says you have to tell people if you bolded some of their txt.  I do think that is a pointless rule but it's not something that bothers me too much.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Bolding can be used as emphasis on certain words, and emphasis can change the meaning of statements.

Therefore, to avoid changing the meaning of a person's statement by quoting them and adding bold tags, you note that you added them, not the person being quoted.

Its also not a new rule, it's been around for years.

that's understandable then in that situation.  But then couldn't it just be that it's only against the rules if a person is using the bold to misrepresent someone's arguments.

I imagine 9 times out of 10 the bolding is being used for the genuine purpose of just showing which section of the conversation you're talking about.
