WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU???? YES!! Someone with a lack of employment should not be allowed to eat steak and expensive foods from our tax payer dollars. Pleasure, comfort, enjoyment and entertainment are not rights!!!
Happiness IS a right. It IS a basic human right. Who the hell are you to determine how or what makes OTHERS happy?
Get off your fucking high horse for a change.

while I've been known to help others at 12 Steppers, I'm quite cautious, and generally confine it to rides, help moving, time and such. As for $$$, I've donated items to fund raising auctions, bought supplies (coffee, sugar, etc), I've taken a few people grocery shopping, I've paid a minimal copay on some prescriptions, I've bought sobriety chips to pass out, and IIRC, I put up some money for a convention rental at a motel.
I've never posted bail or paid a fine for anyone, I don't even recall picking someone up at jail or court for a ride home.
I have tolerated smoking in my vehicle, LOL!
I've also noticed EXTREMELY valuable advice regarding avoiding stupid purchases, vehicle maintenance, home/apt repairs I've offered has invariably been ignored.

Because of the assumption that SteelCurtain referred to-- that most people on some form of assistance are drug abusers. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the system is being defrauded by almost all of the recipients. Most people who are receiving welfare of some kind are aware of the stigma and aren't going to let anyone know about it, so the ones that stand out are the ones gaming the system in some way. It's not like the local news media is going to run stories on the people who use it as it was intended. They're going to cover the ones that milk the system illegally. And then there are the local drug addicts that people accuse of being on welfare even if they aren't, because they fit the stereotype.
There is waste and fraud and it's difficult to root it out, but the good that is done by welfare and similar programs is something that I wish could be quantified and also demonstrated with examples, so that people would understand how important they are. There's fraud and waste in many industries that we're willing to accept because they provide useful services (auto insurance is a good example). No one's demanding that we do away with auto insurance and telling people to "just drive better."
The heroin addicts in my area just used crisis loans. They'd say their bed caught fire and needed a new one or just simply say give me money or I'll kill myself.
Burglry was a huge problem too. But this was when I used to smoke and drink at my back door and talk loudly with my friends and that must have put them off, and they wouldn't target Pakistanis because of the risk. Every single elderly white person on either side of my house was targetted though. I saw one of them running along a garden once when I was shouting my cat to come in, I must have scared him out of the house he was in with my shouting. I called the police but it was too late.

Also, let's not forget that this was a market. They weren't buying fresh cut filets wrapped in bacon. Maybe a flank steak or a sirloin. It's just beef.
Seafood, by the way, is one of the ways that I budget. I buy salmon filets, mahi mahi filets, sometimes even swordfish filets, and I get two for $6.00 at Kroger. Throw them bad boys on some jasmine rice and serve with garlic kale. Each meal costs me like $3.50.

Shame our police forces are so underfunded that they can't do anything about these assholes.

Percentage wise, I suppose the total money spent on welfare for those FLDS breeding colonies is insignificant, but I still find it galling it happens.

I meant seafood other than fish. In Louisiana we have crawfish, crabs, shrimp, oysters and more which are pretty expensive when feeding a family.

They actually came really fast to my old area usually. Pakistanis kidnapping other Pakistanis, wanted guy climbing on a roof, drug dealers houses being raided, guy being beaten with a bar and having dogs set on him, car accidents. The police come zooming round the corner fast everytime.
They actually arrived so fast for the burgler that I called the police again thinking that the police were more burglers but they were actually just in plain clothes and looked like criminals.
They probably do get caught I imagine, being drugged and having to commit a lot of crime is a pretty risky business.

Where's the cutoff? You can't buy culturally or regionally relevant foods, but Top Ramen is a very economic way to feed a family, so that's okay?
