Request from a Christian.

My question to the OP, with all due respect and sincerity is, are you seriously ignorant of the realities of what you're asking?
Forcing children to sit through long, boring, sometimes horrifying church sessions. Telling children they're wicked, dirty, evil, etc. Hearing them tell you 'You can't change my mind'. The arrogance! Teaching them that love is conditional. Way to warp their mentality for life. Managing to be seemingly deluded about how awful people can treat others in the name of their faith. Sickening ignorance. Seriously, read a book like God is Not Great. Hitchens is much more eloquent than most.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?
--- There is no better way to convey the least amount of information in the greatest amount of words than to try explaining your religious views. Apparently god can ignore us, but if we ignore him , we go to hellish fiery torment for all eternity. Lovely. And I suppose you're going to tell me I deserve hell because some mythical human in a garden being guarded by cherubs (no joke), ate an apple. Off the wrong tree. Do you see what I'm getting at here sir or miss?? For the record, I read more of the Bible now than I did as a 'believer'. Maybe you might consider covering the book of Bible first. Because I guarantee every transgression I cited above, every discrimination, every malcontent thought--is based upon the contents of the bible. As a matter of fact, you're sinning by fraternizing with us atheists! If you think the old testament laws are disconnected from the laws you should be following as a good and true Christian? You're wrong. You either need to full on own the faith you proclaim (includong the dime throwing), or drop it. Right now you're luke warm, my friend. And once you know, you cannot unknow what it is that you knowingly have ccome to know that you know, you know?
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite. Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment. Quote:Some people deserve hell. I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong. RE: Request from a Christian.

4th try, here we go. In response to the mega post above ^. After close inspection of this post, provided the information is correct and unedited nothing here is justified in any realm of morality or even the Bible. I will be copying this post for further study.
However I do believe spanking is mandatory, however not in the way described. It should never be done out of anger, and never hard enough to leave any marks. The Child chould first be sat down, calmed, then explained what they did wrong and why. Open palm is accross the buttox best, but my parents had a wooden paddle they used, it looks kinda like a vegetable chopping block. If you have ever played multiplayer on call of duty or games like that, kids these days do need to be disciplined. Yes I am compleatly ignorant of this world, I have no life experience and you shouldn't listen to anything I say. Now do you believe parents should leave their Children behind at home for a good three or four hours? There is sunday school for a reason. And Hitchens is painful to listen to I mean when I hear his monotone speeches it feels like my eye is going to fall out. And no I don't understand why hearing someone speak makes my eyes ache lol. He made it very clear in his OP that he's not trying g to preach, merely trying to write a book about how some Christians treat atheists badly, in hopes of calling attention to this issue to stop it. I don't really blame him for leaving. Way to build the suspense. Now I can't wait for the hammer to fall. RE: Request from a Christian.

Again for theological reasons I disagree with you. However out of respect for the context of the thread I won't get into them.

[/quote] Well your second sentence in that paragraph proves your first sentence (and 3 to 4 hours? I was tearing my hair out before even 1 had elapsed!) Parents shouldn't indoctrinate their children or waste their time going to places to reinforce their misguided beliefs which would cause their children to need to be without them for that long on a regular basis. Beyond that, are there no such things as babysitters or other wholesome non-religious activities that children can be taken to while their parents are out doing whatever it may be? Sunday school is not a positive alternative if it's still reinforcing the same ideologies and stories their parents are getting. That's how you get fooled into thinking that Noah's Ark isn't a story about indiscriminate global genocide. It just strikes me as, like the name says, astonishing that this goes over people's heads in such a spectacular fashion. Like there is literally no other valid way of doing anything. Closed-minded doesn't even begin to describe it adequately.

Listen guys and gals. You keep asking me to justify my beliefs, or comment on the beliefs of others. That's not what I came here to do. I would like to hear of your negative experiences with Christians. I would also like if possible you clarify what denomination they come from.
