Correlation does not equal causation

Of course this chart is bullshit. We already know that people really drown themselves after Adam Sandler releases a film.

The chart is definitely bullshit, and unfortunately it only muddies the waters in any sensible discussion of the difference between correlation and causation.

To wit: While there is a correlation between drowning deaths and Nick Cage films, there is a causal relationship between Nick Cage films that are American remakes of good foreign films (City of Angels/Wings of Desire and The Wicker Man) and intentional drownings -- suicides and homicides alike.
