Serious Problems with Atheism

RE: Serious Problems with Atheism
C’mon OP, you cannot tell me that NDE's aren't real!
They're 100% true!

When someone is near death, the brain makes up all sorts of shite!

Death on the other hand....is what gives our lives meaning. Get it?
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

Yeah I think they are working on it, hopefully this one will work; Thank you all for replies, Just a thought about what Science is Really about these days;

Professor of Genetics, Richard Lewontin wrote; “We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs, in spite of its failure to fulfil many of its extravagant

promises of health and life, in spite of the tolerance of the scientific community for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment, a commitment to materialism. It

is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel us to accept a material explanation of the phenomenal world, but on the contrary, that we are forced by our a priori

adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated. Moreover,

that materialism is absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door.”  Billions and Billions of Demons, The New York Review, 9 January, 1997, p. 31.

Is this an objective search for truth?

You might want to read the entire article and not cherry pick. But I doubt you were the actual picker and this has been supplied to you.

An article from 20 years ago is "these days"?

Guess what the author does not believe in.

As others have said, you need to learn what some words mean before throwing ridiculous generalizations around. Also, don't throw ridiculous generalizations around.

Atheists (those that lack belief in "God", whatever that is) are not a hive mind. Not all atheists are sceptics, which is the group of people you're really addressing here. Those are the people who apportion their beliefs carefully to the evidence, and almost always value the scientific method. So if you mean sceptics, please say sceptics.

How much do you want to bet he can't even spell sceptics?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Thinking

If he manages to understand and use this distinction, he'll be several years of progress ahead of some of our regulars.

This isn't a science site, although some of the scientists here can have that conversation with you if you want. Is that what you wanted instead of an atheist conversation?

How else can we continue to discuss atheism if we leave science out of it? Atheists constantly say there's no evidence for God, isn't that a scientific statement?

bold mine

How about a legal statement? How about a rational statement? How about a sensorial statement? Or, how about "a statement"?

Look, you can believe what ever you want to believe, I don't care. If you want me to consider believing what you believe, you're going to need to provide something much much more substantial.

Here's another simple statement:

I don't care if there's a "God". As such, its existence is irrelevant to me. If it would show up so I could interact with it somehow, that would be great. Further than that, I don't give a monkeys. Why should I?

RE: Serious Problems with Atheism
I can expand on that.

If there is no god, I can get on with my life.

If there is a god and it manifests in reality in any way, I'd like to see the evidence for that before I decide to apportion belief in it. Until then I can behave as though there is no god and get on with my life.

If there is a god and it doesn't manifest in reality, that's exactly the same as there being no god and I can ignore it and get on with my life.

If there is a god and it's that bastard Yahweh the Bloodyhanded, I can get on with my life until I am in a position to kill it.

If it does show up, it's most likely to kick the ass of everyone who has been writing stupid stories about it and making it look like a dumbfuck.
