It all descends to the genetic imperative of continuing your genetic line, in the heat of the moment you would kill others, but if you had time to think and was not forced to do it, sacrifice might be a better option

Are our own lives worth as much as 10 people? How would you answer the question?

I don't think valuablity (is it even a word?) is a factor in a situation like this, our survival instinct plays a much bigger role.
You could argue the morality of the choice, but personally I don't think anyone would choose a stranger (or strangers) over their own.
