what do republicans and christians have against women
September 19, 2010 at 11:34 pm
for whatever reason over the last couple of years right wingers have been against women having rights. they have been saying there not smart enough to vote and they are here to take care of children. i thought this country ditched that mindset several decades ago. whats up with all the random misogyny. its like we made it to the year 2000 and started backtracking. its crazy.

I don't know jack about politics, but as a Christian I have no problem with women. They apparently have a problem with me though.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

How have right wingers opposed womens rights? Some of the most influential right wingers and Republicans in this country are women. You said, "they have been saying there not smart enough to vote" (sic). Which right wingers said that women are not smart enough to vote? I'm sorry, but I don't see any truth to your comment at all.

Because they have inferior brains and lack the upper body strength to do anything about it.
But seriously folks, the thing that pisses me off most about this mindset is the women themselves; Christian, Republican, Muslim or any other crackpot off the shelf ideology that doesn't value the fairer sex enough. In Europe, the US and pretty much most of the developed world..... and Australia, there are legal and social frameworks that support equality for women. These things were fought for, people died to make these things possible. But now it seems the greatest threat to women's liberties is other women.
I suppose everyone has the freedom to exercise their right to be oppressed, but that doesn't make it right.

Methinks you misunderstand the Republican ideology, or at least confuse it with "The Republican Party" (of America), as they are two different things. The Republican ideology involves the governing of a nation as a republic, where the head of state is chosen by something other than heredity, normally through elections of some kind. Don't confuse it with the Republican Party...it's insulting to republicans like me
Additionally, I don't see how either republicans / right-wingers have trampled on women's rights. That appeared in the OP as a baseless assertion, and it remains so.

Adrian: From the outside looking in, the Republican Party walks, talks and looks like the Neo-Conservative Republican party. In fact, I'd go as far to call them fundamentalist neo conservatives. Initially, the Neo Conservatives were opposed to women's rights, but changed their tune in later years to win votes. When you look at the wives of openly Neo Conservative politicians, you see a snapshot of 1950's americana parading itself around as an example of goodness and purity.
You could argue that not all republicans are neo-conservatives, but considering this is an atheists forum, you can see how that argument doesn't carry much weight. If it walks like a Neo Conservative, talks like a Neo Conservative and acts like a Neo Conservative... it's a Neo Conservative. And if you support it, you condone it.
That said, I agree with you. There are some good republicans, and it's a shame they have to be tarred with the same brush, but in reality it's impractical to say there are some good republicans and some bad republicans because the threat posed by bad republicans outweighs the promise posed by good republicans. So all republicans are bad. That's a productive rule of thumb at the moment.
I'm sorry if that upsets you. Perhaps you can take a more active role to try and shape your party's image.

i do mean the republican party of America. I dont know maybe its just an inland empire thing. There are always people on campus or on street corners saying women voting is the reason democrats are getting voted and saying that it is ruing the country. maybe its just republican over here and ann coulter.
