If the reptiles and cockroaches that followed in the wake of trump is any indication, this trump himself is far from the slimiest and most venomous, to say nothing of the most cunning, varmin that the Republican Party can resort to to cling to some semblance of power.

The Republican Party made this trump possible, and can and certainly will make another trump.  Defeat of this trump without great gushing wound to the Republican Party is nothing more than a short lived reprieve.

Not as such, no. As far as I can tell, the judge this time round said the ban amounted to a religious test - essentially, when you ban travelers from a country with a 99.6% Muslim population, it is effectively a ban on Muslims.

The legalese seems to boil down to, 'Nice try, Mr. Trump, but you're not fooling anyone.'

I was listening to CNN this morning, and I thought Alan Dershowitz made an interesting observation. Since the judges used some of Trump's campaign rhetoric to determine intent and to decide whether the ban fails a religious discrimination test, we have a situation in which a ban is deemed unconstitutional that might have passed constitutional muster had Obama implemented it with exactly the same wording. Of course, this isn't over and the judges' decisions may be overturned on appeal. But, for now, it appears Trump has once more stepped on his dick.
