Florida's got some fucktardation going on as well.

We have lingered in the chambers of the sea | By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown | Till human voices wake us, and we drown. — T.S. Eliot

"... man always has to decide for himself in the darkness, that he must want beyond what he knows. ..." — Simone de Beauvoir

"As if that blind rage had washed me clean, rid me of hope; for the first time, in that night alive with signs and stars, I opened myself to the gentle indifference of the world. Finding it so much like myself—so like a brother, really—I felt that I had been happy and that I was happy again." — Albert Camus, "The Stranger"

I knew we were a state with a high number of fundies and ignorant bigots, but it's getting ridiculous, something like this shouldn't be allowed to happen. I vote the rest of the states follow California's lead (though I don't know what ever came of their talks) and consider barring Texas influenced texts from their classrooms. At least it would give me an alternative for when my stepdaughter enters grade school.

I rag on NC a lot, but for the most part as far as day-to-day living, I actually love it here, for a lot of reasons. I've been keeping a fingertip on the education pulse here though, just because I'm concerned about whether they would use such textbooks (should I ever have kids). You hear a lot of murmuring in favor of what the crazy states (TX, AZ, etc) do, but Charlotte *tries* to be progressive. Or at least appear that way. There was a real right wing whack job running for a House seat for my county and he was beat out by a less psycho guy, so I consider that progress. (You might have heard of Tim D'Annunzio...he swears he found the Ark or some shit like that, and then experienced the stigmata because he stepped on a nail sticking out of a board when he stepped out of his truck - for a short time, he made Glenn Beck look normal). As long as we keep screwballs like that out (for the most part) in various levels of authority, in no way can we be as crazy as YOU. Tongue

To quote the same friend mentioned before, "why would God create a planet that's 3/4 water just for his other creation - a land-walking, air breathing, shitty-swimming human?" Makes no effing sense.

I didn't mention it in my intro post, but wanting to be a marine biologist when I was younger helped with the dastardly problem of me believing in evolution, and revering science over Sunday School. Fundies have a right to panic for their wee ones in that instance. The ocean holds far more beauty and mystery than the pages of Bible. Fucktards.
