They'll integrate it into their thing and act as if it had always been like that. Remember that present day protestant fundamentalism is a relatively new invention and they act as it it had been like that for 2000 years.

The religious will take it the same as with lost amazon tribes, "Extraterrestrials, they believe, they just don't know it yet."

It would be interesting to see if and in what form religion had taken in alien civilisations. Perhaps a binary star system planet would develop a binary creator god story.

More than once in the Mormon orbit, I've seen their apologists state something along the lines of "Well, if that particular assertion against Mormonism were true, then Mormonism would be a false religion!" and then later on when indisputable evidence (usually from the Mormon archives !!!!) for the assertion is presented, we see some fast backtracking and/or some unbelievably (but not to them) lame weasel worded rationalization and they maintain Mormonism is still 'true'. (to their credit, there have been some Mormon apologists 'jump ship', so to speak, when the incredible infinite burden of defending the indefensible just gets to be too too much)
So, in regards to the topic, I think it is a very safe bet that for folks of any faith that have literally 'bet the farm' on the non-existence of life elsewhere in the universe, that if it does in fact turn up, they aren't going to throw the towel in for their faith that earlier they would have said would be falsified by just such a discovery.
Mormonism is such a convenient 'petri dish' for seeing the 'playbook' that all faiths follow, bless their little obsessively and compulsively gullible hearts!!

If technology and civilization is so advanced beyond human understanding then the aliens themselves would look like gods to us.
but they were just be normal people with their normal technology in reality looking at us primitive people with our primitive technology.
