I really just do not understand this obsession of guns that borders on the erotic. How come when someone even says a peep of common sense gun control the second amendment crowd absolutely loses their minds? They say that it won't stop criminals, and criminals don't follow the law. Couldn't the same logic be applied to the drug war?

America's obsession with guns

See, I don't worry about "criminals." I worry about crazy motherfuckers with guns. And even worse, clumsy motherfuckers with guns.

If criminal's guns are outlawed, then only outlaws with guns will be criminals., Wait, that's not it. If outlawed guns are only used by criminals...wait. If outlawing guns makes criminals outlaws...oh, fuck it. Just stop shooting people.

Kinda hard to have less gun violence when guns are made like candy and easy to get both legally and illegally. I really am sick of that bullshit that if you say we need to vet better and not make so many, somehow you want to become a dictator. The asshole NRA is not the safety org it started out as, it is much like the asshole tobacco lobby was in the 90s. The NRA DOES NOT represent even the majority of gun owners. THE ISSUE IS NOT legal vs illegal. The issue IS NOT street crime or terrorist or mentally ill. IT IS THE VOLUME MADE and ease of buy, and it still remains most gun injury and death HAPPEN IN THE HOME involving someone the user knows. Liberals DONT want a dictatorship, so I really wish the gun worshipers would grow up. I am sick of them saying "We want less crime and death" yea, well just like taxes, if it worked the way the right said, then nobody would be bitching. Sorry gun worshipers, just like right wing theists, one lobby has scared the shit out of you so they can act as a profit protection racket for the gun makers.
This data is old but it looks like we need to get rid of hand guns first. Got no problem with that. Then knives.

The type that leaves a loaded handgun under the cushions of their sofa refuse to see there's a problem with leaving a loaded handgun under the cushions of their sofa. They can't understand that having a weapon ready for immediate use means that weapon isn't safe.

NOBODY NOBODY NOBODY is talking about getting rid of every single firearm. I AM GETTING TIRED OF THAT FUCKING BULLSHIT. Big clips for either riffles or or handguns, not the gun itself. GROW THE FUCK UP! Oh and yea, now many people go mass shootings with a knife. Knives are harder to use and if you do choose to use one that causes more risk of injury dubmass. Even a mass shooter is going to pick a gun or riffle because that will give them enough distance to do more damage. "Other bad shit happens so do nothing about this shit" IS NOT AN ARGUMENT! "Cars have accidents so lets ban all cars" IS NOT MY FUCKING ARGUMENT ASSSHOLE! This was a general comment and not directed at you. Go and change your diaper now. And I'll say it again, I'm OK with getting rid of hand guns. As far as I'm concerned, they serve little useful purpose except to kill people. The knives comment was a joke, but apparently the humor impaired get to go off on shit rants. Grow up you chronic victim.

The only pragmatic thing EVERYONE should want, is to insure the gun shops and gun makers do a better job of preventing ANYONE, even without a record, but say with mental illness, domestic problems, work place problems and religious grudges, because those people can have no record at time of buy or they can borrow or steel it from family or neighbor. We don't vet well enough, but no, it is bullshit to say you an rid the entire nation of handguns. I am for banning anything that is high capacity and high speed handgun or riffle. I am no victim, but I am sick of seeing this shit in the news, even out here in the middle of nowhere and have the assholes on the right think gun violence is strictly a black urban vs white cop issue. It is a public safety issue in every fucking county in both blue and red states, and gun violence is affecting everyone of both parties in both the middle class and poor. It should not be party issue but only one Party is stuck in the fucking wild west days and only one lobby is holding the entire nation hostage. The GOP and NRA wont even fucking admit that most Americans INCLUDING most gun owners want a universal background check. And I could care less if you think I misunderstood you. Again, NEVER claimed to be a victim. But Newtown, San Bernadino, Va Tech, Pulse Orlando. And the worst part is even long before Columbine, back in 1984 in San Ysidro a mentally ill man named James Huberty murdered 21 people in a McDonalds. The sad part is that this is also NOT the majority of gun injury and death. Most gun injury and death is still in the home. We DO as the OP rightfully states, have a gun obsession and we need to change our attitudes otherwise we will continue to have this, both in the home and mass shootings. White woman murdered by intruder right here in the middle of nowhere, nice middle class neighborhood too. Lucky her the murder had a gun. Happened out here in the middle of nowhere. Most likely a domestic dispute, boyfriend, jilted lover or husband. Two big things that would fix this real quick, allow the shops and factories to be sued, not to put them out of business, but to force them to be careful as to whom they sell them to. Gun insurance. Just like car insurance. It pays the medical bills, even in cases of accident or theft.
Again, the vastly overwhelming majority of gun owners do not use the gun to commit crimes or shoot their family members, either by accident or on purpose.
If I have a firearm for personal use, hunting or protection of self and/or property, then I prefer to have at least one more bullet than the bad guy or the wild dogs intent on gnawing on me, so I can get to safety. I would rather have many more bullets then they and an extra clip, because I can't run so fast anymore. If I braid my child's hair while holding a pistol, then I am an idiot. If I do not educate my children about the proper handling of firearms, then I am an idiot. I if I do not keep my guns safely stored, then I am an idiot. But...this does not count for the ones used for immediate protection, which must obviously be kept loaded and at the ready. Otherwise, they are as useless as not having one. Aside from that, bad things happen and people intent on killing others or themselves will do so with whatever means they have available. And...nobody can predict psychotic breaks that lead to disaster. Firearms are not easy to purchase and in most states require time and money and patience....except air guns, maybe .22s in some states. In Maryland, the paperwork and background checks and regulations are more strict than other states, but abided by when purchasing legally. What happens illegally is not within the state's ability to control it seems. So why should lawfully owned guns purchased by law-abiding people be taken away? An I obsessed with guns? No, but I refuse to become a statistic. I am obsessed with keeping my family and myself and my property safe from whatever forces that would work against that condition. -Jeanne
