How's their health? Are they being quarantined/tested?

We have a ginger cat in our neighbourhood who just wanders into peoples' homes and makes himself comfortable.  Found him in my place a few years ago curled up in my cat bed, where he stayed for about 5 hours, perfectly happy.

His name's Harry.

Turns out the his owners bought him back from the Middle East.

Typical Muslim: moves to another country and claims everything is his.

Good on you for rescuing those beauties. I can't believe there are actual standards in the dog meat trade. Let's give all the dogs in the meat trade a slight heartworm infection.

I tried Korean on Yong when I saw him at the vet.  I don't know what Korean for "go fuck yourself" is but he didn't sit.  He did sit when his foster took out a dog treat.  That language they all know.

It's a generational thing.  The younger people do not go for it.  I understand that Taiwan has recently banned the practice. 

There are no slight heartworm infections.  Its really a case of the cure being almost worse than the disease.  Once the baby worms (microfilaria) are dead the injected medication kills the adult worms.  However, the reason for keeping them quiet is that if the dead worms break loose before the white blood cells have a chance to absorb them they can cause pulmonary embolisms and the dog keels over dead.  This would be a bad outcome.

Sort of off-topic, anyone see A Dog's Purpose? We watched it last night. Spoiler Alert, a dog dies a few times in the film. It was very sad, but it was also sweet and super dog-centric. There's a beautiful retriever in it (probably played by several dogs).

I saw that with my wife, and it produced the expected effect: she bawled sad and happy tears through about 2/3 of the film.

My wife is a confirmed animal lover, tender-hearted to a fault, and Korean. I don't think I'll be sharing with her the story behind this thread; she would likely come unglued. If we ever go to Seoul, I can easily imagine her going full Jesus-with-a-whip-in-the-Temple on some unwitting meat vendor.

I aDore golden retrievers. Just looking at one makes me tear up though. Had a very special one growing up/into my 20s. It was heartbreaking to lose him!
One day, when I have a yard and kids, I want to save a retriever like your adopters, Min. Kudos to you for being a Foster! It's not easy.

One time I agreed to foster a mom and kittens and got handed a carrier full of kittens and a mom who, turned out, was feral as hell! Couldn't get her back in the cage, she took up residence under my bed and growled whenever I jumped into it. Or whenever I rolled over and moved it. Or just for fun. She was a mean lil bugger!
Anyways she let me socialize the kittens, and they all got adopted. Took two vet peeps and 24hrs to catch that cat. She was one bad mama! X]
